Anyone been to one? Is it a good idea or too near Xmas etc?

It would be mainly family, most of which we are putting up. Most of our friends will be back to visit family for Xmas so more likely to come then if we did it in the summer etc.
only thing that worries me is it being so close to Xmas and the price!
Also not sure of the venue we want will open past 12 anyway so that would be a bit pointless!

I've been to a 29/12 wedding that was awesome (if bloody freezing in the church!). The bride and groom gave loads of notice so guests could plan and arranged a cheap deal with a local hotel.

I quite like the idea of a NYE wedding. Guess only issues might be accommodation and transport.

Figster · 22/11/2014 18:25

I would only do it if I was happy a % of guests wouldn't be able to come. In fact no I wouldn't do it

My friend is invited to one NYE in Edinburgh now that's inconsiderate hotel rooms £100s if pounds really impractical don't do that maybe

I think it is a fantastic idea. what you need to do is stay on a cottage site where all your guests can stay too so there is no need for anyone to travel anywhere and you can all have a party. would suggest you keep the guest list to a reasonable size personally and think about booking it now for next year or possibly year after. we have hired venues for parties before. message me if you want details. I would say go for it - NYE is always way too dull.

Does the venue have rooms? So at least those with DCs can stay over and put their DCs down in the rooms, hire a babysitter and return to the party?

If you speak to a hotel now, you might well get a good group discount for a block booking of 10 + rooms - and most would stay serving at least in the residents bar even if the official venue part has closed. I wouldn't do it if it's a venue where people have to travel to somewhere else to stay the night, taxis etc will be a nightmare to sort. Babysitters will be pricy too, but if you are in the same hotel, a couple of sets of parents clubbing together will bring the price down.

If you are going to go for a venue that's not a hotel/doesn't have rooms (like hiring a whole stately home), then perhaps the day before/after might be better, so the costs and logistics won't be as tricky.

I had friend who wanted to get married 27 dec .they only told us about about this time of year . There was no way we could make as holiday was booked train tickets booked and we had our Christmas plans all down pat.
So if you plan to get married around Christmas time tell people as soon as poss so they can plan , get time off work , budget for it.

Our friends did - they had a very small family wedding and meal and the we were all invited for the evening party which was lovely. Our DD was just 3 at the time and she came with us and danced the night away going to bed at 1 am!!! We did take the buggy for her to sleep in (having not used it for ages) but she was enjoying herself with the other children too much! It was brilliant!

It's sounds lots of fun. As long as you don't get upset when people RSVP with a no. Obviously it's not going to be convenient for all and those with kids might have to pop out early.

My grandpa had a New Years birthday and it was awesome. It was easy to get the family together for his parties on milestone years, and we'd countdown to his birthday. Even though he's now gone, we still remember it as his occasion.

Will children be allowed to the wedding?...it is quite difficult to find babysitters on nye.

Kab13 · 22/11/2014 21:35

Children would be welcome! I have one of my own so it would be wrong not to :)
Only thing is paying for everyone to be put up. Expensive!!!
