For years I have had a vague recollection of a chilling ghost story about a young girl transported back to Victorian times when she looks in a mirror. I have just remembered it was called "Come Back Lucy" & searched online for details... And I am freaked out all over again, despite being 43!

I love a good ghost story but I can't believe that was considered ok for me to watch. I must have only been 7 or 8 when it was shown.

Does anyone else recall it?

Also scared witless of what I think was The Singing Ringing Tree - the weird dwarf making thorn hedges spring up everywhere.

I've just gone to Amazon to look for "come back lucy", and guess what the, "What Other Items Do Customers Buy After Viewing This Item?"

Children of the stones and sometimes susan

sashh · 21/11/2014 09:14

sorry charlotte sometimes

WowserBowser · 21/11/2014 09:21

Ghostwatch with Sarah Greene

ThrowAChickenInTheAir · 21/11/2014 09:24

Argh yes Children of the Stones It's on YouTube.

Just watch the opening part of it.TERRIFYING! Shock. What were they thinking of?

And yet part of me still thinks it beats the pants off today's tame drivel.

southeastastra · 21/11/2014 09:32

wine you can watch 'quiet as a nun' armchair thriller on YouTube, it's quite an involved story , patsy kensit is in it

the boy in the house film is paper house ? with Ben Kingsley I think

southeastastra · 21/11/2014 09:33

we also recently watched the quatermass TV series that was most odd

love old TV series so much better than stuff now

MissPenelopeLumawoo2 · 21/11/2014 09:39

I remember the Armchair Thrillers nun with no face. I was absolutely terrified. I was preparing for my First Holy Communion at the time and I was being taught by an ancient nun. I found her terrifying too! I don't know if I am brave enough to watch it on You Tube, even now.

BaldricksWife · 21/11/2014 09:44

I remember watching 'The Dark Is Rising' on what passed for Kids TV in my youth, just brilliant and only a couple of years ago I read one of the books it was based on before giving it to a friends DD for Christmas. Lots of parallel lines in it and really engaging but quite heavy for children's fiction. Loved seeing 'The Amazing Mr Blunden' at the flics as well which was a bit spooky!

ChickenMe · 21/11/2014 09:51

Look and Read was Dark Towers (come with me yes come with me to dark towers) ,The Boy From Space, The Fairground, Sky Runner (I think, something about a falcon).

Surprised no one has mentioned Chocky. And The Watcher in the Woods scared me for years!

bruffin · 21/11/2014 10:01

OP - yes you are right

fairnotfair · 21/11/2014 10:41

Noseybonk from Jigsaw. Utterly terrifying.

I'm amazed they are making a film out of Enid Blyton's Magic Faraway Tree. It was my favourite book, I read it again and again (mind you didn't have many others to compete with it), but never met anyone else who'd even heard of it.

KatoPotato · 21/11/2014 11:25

I just viviidly remember two scenes from two seperate 'kids shows'

One was a girl with very long hair, falling into water then being pushed deeper underwater by a woman (witch?) pushing a stick into her stomach (circa 1983)

Another was a boy or girl in bed and hearing a banging on what may have been a patio door or full length window in their bedroom - there was some lightning and sort of slimy creature and it left horrid hand prints. (circa 1988)

itsaknockout · 21/11/2014 11:37

Does anyone remember 'Lizzie Dripping' The witch in that scared the bejesus out of me!
Also remember 'The changes' I liked that but wasn't scared.

Idontseeanysontarans · 21/11/2014 11:44

I love these threads Smile
The Children of Greene Knowe and Moondial were 2 of my favourite programmes but I love that thrill you get of watching or reading something slightly creepy!
Also the Tripods but I think that got cancelled and it never finished finished properly? I get that would he a good one to remake now. Speaking of remakes last time I heard the new rentaghost is going to have Russell Brand in it and they're doing a cgi version of Thunderbirds next year with the original Parker/Brains in (wise old elf from Ben and Holly) Grin

GamoraStarlord · 21/11/2014 11:54

KatoPotato The woman with the stick is Watcher in the Woods. Very creepy with the reflections in the mirror!

KatoPotato · 21/11/2014 11:56

Thankyou Gamora now, do I dare try track it down?

GamoraStarlord · 21/11/2014 12:00

I think I might hunt it out! I am sure Maggie Smith was in it ?

ArcheryAnnie · 21/11/2014 12:02

I loved The Tomorrow People with every fibre of my being.

Later on, I also loved Sapphire and Steel, but by god that was one of the creepiest shows on telly. Images from it haunt me still!

Reading Alan Garder (The Owl Service et al) still bloody terrifies me.

GamoraStarlord · 21/11/2014 12:04

Oh and Kato I think it might be Under the Mountain for the other show .. were there red and blue gems for the characters?

KatoPotato · 21/11/2014 12:05

www.amazon.co.uk/The-Watcher-In-Woods-DVD/dp/B0001KZNEC

£4.71 and prime!

Shahrazad · 21/11/2014 13:54

Sapphire and Steel is bloody disturbing - especially the one with the blank faced pictures.

I think the best Dr Who episodes of recent years (Blink, Silence in the Library, the Empty Child) are very influenced by Sapphire and Steel.

Sapphire and Steel have been assigned.... rubbish but brilliant rubbish.

effinandjeffin · 21/11/2014 14:46

Yes, loved the Tripods, really wished they'd made another series.

Not really a kids programme but Threads absolutely terrified me. Being a child in the eighties, nuclear war was one of my greatest fears.

effinandjeffin · 21/11/2014 14:49

And going back to Dr Who, my dd recently watched the one with the kid who has a gas mask for a face and says 'are you my mummy?' She won't go into the hall on her own now. I feel terrible but at the same time, being scared by Dr Who is almost like rite of passage.

merseyparadise · 21/11/2014 15:06

Chocky...I was engrossed and terrified with that programme
