DH and I popped round to someone's house on the way home. When we got there, the drive was occupied and a van was parked alongside the grass verge (the houses are fairly big, so each house has a dropped kerb for the drive and a grass verge approx the length of a car outside). So DH parked alongside the grass verge outside the next door neighbour's house, and went inside to speak to his mate quickly. I stayed in the car so we didn't have to get toddler DD out.
A few minutes later a car drove past, pulled up along the next grass verge, and a woman got out and knocked on my car window. I opened it and she said "excuse me, but I can't get into my drive, do you mind moving?"
I replied, "of course not" and went to move into the driver's seat. At which point the woman said "actually, I think I can get into my drive from the other side" and walked off again to pull her car onto the drive.
At first, I was pretty bewildered as to why the woman felt the need to approach me when the car wasn't actually in her way. But then it hit me- she obviously wanted to have a good moan/rant about someone parking on 'her' part of the road. Maybe she's even a MNetter and knows how a good bunfight can ensue from a parking thread? And I denied her the opportunity due to being polite and willing to help.
So AIBU to have been reasonable?
