To return Heston Blumenthal's utterly disgusting chocolates to Waitrose?

A few days ago I bought a box of Heston Bloomingdisgustinthal's chocolates in Waitrose. I ONLY bought them because I thought they were on offer at £3.49 and that seemed a reasonable price for a smallish box of 15 chocs. It turns out the offer was for the teeny tiny box of 5 not the 15 which I paid £13.50(!!!!!!) for Shock I didn't realise till I got home, unpacked the bags and DH had already opened the box, eaten two and declared them "horrible".

I have since eaten 4 more, to give the guy a chance...but no, they are truly disgusting. Rosemary and thyme praline anyone?

WIBU to attempt to return them to Waitrose? Would I get a refund do you think? I have chucked the receipt unfortunately.

Ugh, I need a Walnut Whip now just to get the taste out of my mouth. Envy

Waitrose will refund you, because they are shit hot on customer service, but YABU to ask for a refund
There is nothing wrong or faulty with them, just that they aren't to their taste.
I'm not a huge fan of salmon, but if bought some, got it home, tried it and remembered I didn't like it, I can't just then take it back and expect a refund.

BoredAdminGirl · 20/11/2014 12:22

You can't just take stuff back if you don't like the taste!

LardyDa · 20/11/2014 12:40

You CAN take stuff back just because you don't like the taste IF that's what the companies returns policy says. I bet the OP will get a refund or replacement item.

TheChandler · 20/11/2014 12:44

YABU to be one of those screechy customers who blames shops for selling stuff that you can't be bothered to select properly in the first place and makes a big fuss. Different if you had found a dead insect in the box or something, but a rosemary and thyme praline in a box of fancy chocolates? Oh my goodness! How terrible!

No, honestly, what a strop. If you realised you had bought the bigger box by mistake, you should have taken it back before you opened it and ate half of them.

mshanj · 20/11/2014 12:58

I have added these to my order coming tomorrow, the little box. Oh my girls I'm looking forward to these!

EmilyGilmore · 20/11/2014 14:10

All right TheChandler calm down. It's just a box of (disgusting) chocolates.

Anyway, I've had them in a bag under the pram for two days now and haven't found the balls to return them yet. The lady on customer services is so friendly and waves to my baby as we pass...I keep hoping there'll be somebody else there. She likes me. I don't want to get a rep for being "screechy lady".

You know, if it had been a box of properly fancy chocs like Charbonnel & Walker or Prestat I would have double-checked the price but honestly £3.49 for a box of supermarket own-brand on offer seemed about right.

I may have to chalk this one up to experience. Have much enjoyed reading your comments though (and those on the Ocado website actually). Whoever said at the top of the thread that I might be more of a Roses girl...you're spot on Wink

I spotted these on Ocado today, and they have all negative reviews. They must be pretty awful, so I think you should return them and explain that they are really disappointing. If nobody lets them know they're selling horrible chocolate, they can't put it right.

ShatnersBassoon · 20/11/2014 14:21

I think the fact you know the woman on the customer services desk is a good thing. You're a regular customer, but not a regular complainer.

NotYouNaanBread · 20/11/2014 14:21

The lapsang souchong smoked salmon is heavenly, but the rest of his stuff is overpriced and disappointing. I love a foodie treat, especially when DH is away (I eat better when I'm alone, not worse!) but don't bother with HB's stuff any more.

Lindtlady1 · 20/11/2014 14:29

You should return them, Waitrose will give you a refund and welcome your feedback, Waitrose is first class when it comes to keeping it customer's happy and why not. I have returned things before now, without any problems.

AimlesslyPurposeful · 20/11/2014 14:44

PurpleCrazyHorse - Will you update when your Tesco surprise turns up please?

OP - Have you tried Roses recently? I had some last Christmas and thought they tasted stale then I read on here that they've changed the recipe and they contain soya rather than milk.

LardyDa · 20/11/2014 15:31

Agh! Just take the flippin' chocolates back. Smile Waitrose have a very generous non quibble returns policy - why wouldn't you use it? I don't understand why you feel awkward about it. You are not lying or trying to deceive them.

flowery · 20/11/2014 15:42

We had some Heston puff pastry mince pies last year or the year before. They looked beautiful but every time I bit into one I was just disappointed it wasn't a sausage roll.

Napmnapl1 · 26/03/2015 18:22

I bought, these hoc"s also, And have since bought 5 other boxes Amazing chocolates, Also Waitrose own brand are delicious

Napmnapl1 · 26/03/2015 18:28

Love these chocolates??

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 26/03/2015 18:29

Oh, I had a box of those chocolates, and enjoyed them. I didn't share, ate them all myself. They were lovely

Bair · 26/03/2015 18:33

That you, Heston? Mumsnet would offer you a web chat if you asked nicely. You don't need to dig up old threads, were you googling yourself?

Teapot74 · 26/03/2015 18:36

YABU because you should have realised that anything with that name on it was always going to be overpriced and not up to scratch. Waitrose put a clear warning on all of their produce in this category, it will clearly have been marked "Heston Blumenthal"

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 26/03/2015 18:36

Oh, flippin' hec - I've been caught by a zombie again! When will I ever learn??? (Never look at the dates of posts).

MrsAidanTurner · 26/03/2015 18:37

I have often wondered if his association with waitrose has damaged his reputation, never had a nice thing of his from there.

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 26/03/2015 18:41

I did try his "Luxury Prawn Cocktail" once - it was horrible. And bought the Christmas Pud (with the hidden orange) at Christmas. I enjoyed it, considering I'm not much of a Christmas pudding fan, but no-one else did (except for the birds)
