Temperature of 39+ degrees in 7+half month old - aibu waiting it out?

Poor DC 7+half months has had a temperature above 38 for the entire day since waking up at 5am. It has now gone over 39.1 and stayed up for last hour. Have given three ibuprofen doses throughout the day and two paracetamol doses (last one half hour ago). Temperature still hasn't dropped. DC has had a few brief alert phases looking happy even though the temperature was still there, but mostly drowsy, sleeping, moaning sadly and crying. No other symptoms like a cold or teething and no obvious rash. Has had a few breastfeeds but refused food and water. Should I wait it out till morning and hope it breaks or take the little one into a+e tonight? Feel a bit worried, but it may just be because DC is my first...... Blush

Hi and thanks again for all the help and comments last night. Flowers It was suggested we wait til this morning unless the fever goes above 40 rather than visit a+e because DC had no rash or dehydration. It didn't spike over 40 but it was a sad, long night for us all. Sad Went in for an emergency appointment this morning and DC has a rather nasty case of acute onset tonsillitis. Gp checking a swab sample for some strain that can affect the heart as it was so sudden and nasty, but he says it is highly unlikely and just a precaution. Very blistery, poor darling. Vile-tasting antibiotics + some probiotics and more ibuprofen and paracetamol to alternate every couple of hours. Feel quite sad about it all. Blush I guess I'm keeping DC away from other children for a few days? Gp said it is likely just bad luck rather than DC picking it up from another child at a playgroup so don't need to phone any group we visited or other parents to mention it to them. But next time this happens in a same sequence (hopefully not again though) I'll be checking tonsils first thing and not listen to OOH advice.

Ohh I meant to add that since some other posters with DC with similar symptoms also ended up with bacterial tonsillitis as the cause, I guess it is worth knowing about. Well done MN knowledge! May no-one doubt the hivemind again. Grin

Ouch, poor little dot.

One good thing is that antibiotics generally work pretty quickly on this sort of thing in my experience - hopefully by this time tomorrow your little one will feel a whole lot better.

Same thing with my DGD except up all night screaming.

Doctor thought bacterial throat infection till blisters appeared on her foot.

Turned out to be Hand Foot and Mouth. There'd been a bit of an outbreak.
