Seriously, where are all my socks going?

It's getting so that I am losing at least one sock per wash load now. I think there MUST be a gremlin sitting behind my washing machine eating odd socks. It is so maddening

I used to put all the odd ones in a bag just waiting for their friend to turn up. I ran out of socks so now wear odd ones.

I am a proper slattern, quite the opposite of a domestic goddess - yet I never have odd socks.
Why is this? This must be the 1 part of domesticity that I get right, yet I don't know what I'm doing right. Hmmm...

I have done an extensive search of the inside of my dryer and washing machine - I can't find anywhere where the socks could disappear? Must be a worm hole that appears only when the appliance is on

I'm lucky if I can find a matching pair, I'm constantly baffled by where they could possibly go..
DH does the washing/ drying occasionally, he of course matches every sock pair perfectly ??? ...every time!
It's such a mystery ... Even he doesn't know how he does it ....

This too was me until I found a packet of plastic sock holders in Lakeland Plastics. When the socks come off each pair goes in a holder and stays in it until it has finished its journey through the washer and the tumble drier.

Would love to know where the socks go too. If anyone happens to find a pink and white striped bed sock please let me know cos ive got its partner here. Thanks

I cleared out my wardrobe which was full of crap last week and found an entire black bag worth of socks, all of them dh's and the dc's (I don't own any socks)

Perhaps some of yours have ended up in there? If so, I have washed and dried them all

I've got an odd-sock-corner in the airing cupboard. About every three months I fish them all out - it's amazing how many you can match up!

Similar issue - for several years I've been in possession of one odd flip-flop. At least I think it is one. Every now and again I come across it, and think "Aha! Found it! Now where did I put the other one?" I can't make up my mind whether there are two of them in different places, or whether I keep finding the same one all the time.

Trouble is, I daren't throw it out, because I just KNOW the other one will appear a few weeks later!!!

I bought a load of black socks but they all faded at different rates so it was even more difficult to find a pair.

I also used to have Kama Kazi Socks. One always committed suicide in the washer, never to be seen again. Then I had a brainwave and put all socks in an old pillowcase fastened with an elastic band. Haven't lost a sock in years!
If you don't do this then eventually the disappearing socks will all wrap around the back of the drum and the washer won't spin. Then you will have a costly bill to fix it!

As a student we had a machine with pump that ate a blue sock and some bangles and other random pieces! We wondered why the white wash had a blue tinge to it for a few months!!!!

I had a facebook status saying all odd socks turned into Tupperware lids.

Sock monster. Obvs.
