So,I would never actually do this, but after a rather trying year decade with a v close relative it is round to the question of what to buy them for Christmas. I will probably just get a voucher, but my evil side would love to get this

I clearly won't do this as I'm not an entirely evil person but AIBU to ask if you have any other similar secret desires to buy overtly P/A presents that send a message?!

FreakinScaryCaaw · 18/11/2014 13:55

My suggestion is..... Zoflora. Grin I never would though, I'd just like to point that out. I'm not a total bitch.

FishCanFly · 18/11/2014 14:05

Try this Grin www.shitexpress.com

Oh! I thought it was already generally recognised that the new Debrett's Handbook was this year's most ambiguous Christmas present.

I'm planning to give quite a few copies...

Cornettoninja · 18/11/2014 14:46

Isn't the MN goto a sponsored oxfam goat?

Self righteous enough they can't complain about it without looking like an arseholes but utterly useless to them.

A variation on the theme of the Debrett's handbook, but still.

A person of my acquaintance who was always kind enough to tell me how much of a mess I looked once bought me a make up kit.

It was not appreciated.

BrendaBlackhead · 18/11/2014 14:52

I did actually buy sil a book called "Modern Etiquette for Women" - quite a nice edition. But I was too chicken to give it to her. It's still in my spare presents drawer!

smokeandfluff · 18/11/2014 14:53

Deodorant gift set

treaclesoda · 18/11/2014 14:55

OP, i was going to come on and be all on my high horse and say 'how horrible' and then I saw the title of the book and thought 'oh, I'd like to buy that for my MIL' Grin

BrendaBlackhead · 18/11/2014 14:56

Delia's How to Cook... especially for a mil...

LadyLuck10 · 18/11/2014 14:56

I think it's brilliant Grin leave it under their Xmas tree.

bigbluestars · 18/11/2014 15:03

Last year my MIL bought me neck cream for "necks that are showing signs of aging". Nice.

russellgrantschin · 18/11/2014 15:36

BrendaBlackhead that's a good one!

My ex-MIL once bought me a book on vaginal yeast infections, their causes and what diet to take to cure them. She had found it in a charity shop.

ClawHandsIfYouBelieveInFreaks · 18/11/2014 15:39

A friend once sent me "How to Unclutter".

It wasn't Christmas or my Birthday. Hmm Yes I am a slight hoarder but not in a problematic way!

SaucyJack · 18/11/2014 15:40

I wanted to buy someone a biography of Isambard Kingdom Brunel once (but couldn't actually find one) because I thought they needed to learn how to build a bridge and get over themselves.

Dovahkiin · 18/11/2014 15:41

The Cartoon Guide to Sex - for an ex

russellgrantschin · 18/11/2014 15:42

I also have a friend who gives very basic presents like underwear/socks/kitchen roll/washing powder/value packs of toilet disinfectant and prefaces giving them by saying something like "I could tell you were too busy to buy them for yourself, so I thought I'd do it for you."

Dovahkiin · 18/11/2014 15:45

A copy of He's Just Not That Into You for, well, take your pick . . .

treaclesoda · 18/11/2014 15:46

Claw I have no idea if you are a problematic hoarder or not, and I suspect I am going to really offend you with this but people who have a hoarding problem nearly always say that they are just a bit cluttered and it is no big deal. I have a relative whose house is so cluttered that there is nowhere to sit and when you walk across a room you are wading through 'stuff' that comes up as high as your knees. She is very adamant that she is not a hoarder, just a bit untidy.

I am not saying that your house is like that, I'm sure it probably isn't. But what I mean is that I wouldn't see that as a passive aggressive gift, I would see that as a friend who was concerned for your wellbeing and was trying to be helpful. Unless of course the friend has previous form for being horrible, in which case they were maybe just being horrible.

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 18/11/2014 15:49

Find a gift she has given to you and wrap it up and give it back to her.

Thebodynowchillingsothere · 18/11/2014 15:52

My friends mil brought her a ped egg for dry skin and a razor for Christmas. Hilarious.

Russel did you scratch it a lot in her company? Grin

CaptainAnkles · 18/11/2014 15:52

I would consider that Domestic Goddess book or any related merchandise to be an insult. Giver is basically saying you're a slovenly cow who can't cook.

BalloonSlayer · 18/11/2014 15:57

I remember a few people being given "What not to wear" a few years ago and being rather Hmm about it.

Tempted to give my DSis a DVD of the Royle Family as she works FT, her DH is retired and does nothing round the house and her DD now has a baby and expects DSis to go round every evening and help her look after it, which she does without complaint . . . Grin
