To think that anybody who threatens women

With rape should be killed or at least have to answer for their views in court?

It seems to me that every woman who expresses openly an opinion that can even obliquely be classed as feminist is open to attack in a way men are not. It's time this changed, and any man threatening women, and ultimately trying to silence them, must be stopped.

But the dynamics behind this type of crime are different skylark.

A man threatening and assaulting another man isn't the same as a man doing the same to a woman.

If you put all the offences together men/men and men/women would have different threads and similarities running through them.

They should have the same outcome (justice) but the solutions to the two are going to be different.

Is there a culture on Twitter of men threatening to rape other men who they disagree with? Because women seem to get threatened frequently with rape as far as I can make out AngrySad

ghostyslovesheep · 14/11/2014 23:25

yes - because rape or the threat of rape has been used to keep us in line for fucking centuries

don't stand up
don't be counted
dont go out alone
don't go out after dark
don't have male friends
don't drink
don't wear clothes
don't be naked
don't get married
don't fight for your rights

...

Women get threatened with rape by random people IRL as well of course - that thread about the 9yo and I got threatened with rape by some young men on the bus when I was a girl and so on.

It links into a wider culture of behaviour and is different to teh culture around male on male violence and so deserves talking about in isolation I think.

Men don't tend to threaten other men with rape either IRL or on twitter, whereas it is a standard go-to threat for a man to say to a woman IYSWIM.

ghostyslovesheep · 14/11/2014 23:30

unless they are seen as weaker or the men are trying to assert dominance - they they are

for the same reasons we are

TheCowThatLaughs · 14/11/2014 23:30

Yes exactly ghosty. It is different and it is something that men use against women.

ghostyslovesheep · 14/11/2014 23:37

prime example of the hypocrisy for me was when Peter Sutcliffe was murdering women they had a curfew ...on WOMEN

Not men ...they knew a man was responsible - no women had to change their behaviour and alter their lives because well otherwise they only had themselves to blame

taking men off the streets may have been more fucking beneficial

Snapespotions · 14/11/2014 23:42

Humour? About a subject like this?

Bloody stupid OP! Of course they should not be killed, and of course they should have to answer in court.

Attempts to silence women through threats of sexual violence are not really the kind of thing I would joke about.

TheCowThatLaughs · 15/11/2014 08:07

Yes ghosty it's dealing with the "symptoms" not the cause isn't it? No wonder nothing changes. A disservice to women and men too.
