Leaving 13 year old at home for 5 hours tomorrow with a cold

Am I OK to leave DS age 13 at home with a stinking cold legally etc tomorrow? I've got a booked appointment for work about an hour away tomorrow and will be back after about 4-5 hours. He is very sensible, will probably just overdose on computer and TV in delight, but I'm also worried about unpleasant Ex-H who tries to get me on anything I might be doing 'wrong'. Any thoughts very welcome. I can maybe get a friend to pop in to check on him; alternatively
he will have to take a long trip to DP's mother, which would mean leaving at the crack of dawn with DP tomorrow and I'm kind of not organised for him to do that at this point!

Ever heard of taking a paracetamol and decongestants?

vitamin c?

you don't need to be off sick with a cold, pathetic! would you be happy if any of his teachers did this?

I promise you, he will get into trouble with employers in the future if you teach him it's acceptable to do this!

If my child's teacher had a nasty cold I would much rather she stayed home, got better, and kept it to herself.

I would also prefer my employees did the same.

I think it does everyone a favour if those ill keep it to themselves! There is nothing worse than ill children being shoved off to school, spreading it and unable to concentrate.
