there is building work going on in my office and this week they are installing new plasterboard partitions and doors about 1m away from my desk. All my stuff is cover in plaster dust and the noise is ridiculous. My eyes and throat were itching really bad by the end of yesterday
Surely they should have moved me to a different floor while this is going on?

Yes they should.
But they didn't, so gather your stuff together and move now.

Yes they should have but why have you waited till the end of the week to say something?

I wouldn't have put up with more than an hour of this. I'm surprised you did but if they're still working, up sticks now.

I was in meetings at the beginning of the week so only had a few hours yesterday (which was plenty)
I've moved now, but still annoyed that they're doing this messy work during business hours when the office is empty at weekends and after 6pm. Also not enquiring if anyone has a problem with dust in the office. They have also blocked off the only lift and we have disabled staff.
I just think it shows little care for the staff :S

No. a large private company.

Of course the people doing the work have no private life and would be happy to do it at night.

Actually Andrew, that's precisely how it's done in places where the building users matter.

You know, shopping centres and other places where the owners would lose money if they trashed the place during the day. They just have to pay more for night workers. Like any shift work.

That's irrelevent. Office building work is done over night and at weekends as standard.

A substantial part of my favourite shopping centre was pout of use for ten days for noisy building work recently. JTB. Of course some work has to be done in off hours - but not all.

You choose to go to a shopping centre while it's being refurbished. I don't have the choice to go to work or not.

They aren't. Sounds like your work place has tried to get the work done on the cheap rather than using a specialist firm who are able to plan the noisy and dirty works for outside core working hours.
