...and to offer this beverage to my adult friends?
DP says this is very childish. I thought it was perfectly normal. who is right?

Do you have a Montezuma's near you? They're a hot chocolate shop and the branches with cafes have really rich, proper hot chocolate that actually tastes of chocolate. Instant stuff is just plain wrong.

redexpat · 10/11/2014 23:11

DH is a freak. LTB. Grin

ILovePud · 10/11/2014 23:17

Discopanda, have you tried hotel chocolate hot chocolate balls? You melt them in hot milk and they are lush.

wishmynamewasdave · 10/11/2014 23:17

LTB - my dp went and bought me squirty cream and marshmallows just so I could recreate the experience at home ??

steff13 · 10/11/2014 23:22

I'd love it. And if you added a splash of butterscotch Schnapp's or Bailey's or both, all the better!

IamnotaStepfordHousewife · 10/11/2014 23:44

U2TheEdge oh my god I love that hot chocolate! Have several containers of it um yummy!

musicalendorphins2 · 10/11/2014 23:49

You dh sounds unusual. People have been drinking hot chocolate for years, all ages of people, not only children.

Momagain1 · 10/11/2014 23:51

Where did he get the idea that grown ups dont drink hot chocolate? Or was it just the marshmallow addition that was inappropriate? He is weird.

pissedglitter · 10/11/2014 23:56

Add whipped cream and a candy cane Smile

zonkin · 10/11/2014 23:59

My kids have this and I join them every now and then. If adults are over at ours with their kids and we do hot chocolate I offer it to the adults too and most accept the marshmallow option.

zonkin · 11/11/2014 00:00

Should add that I also offer the adults a coffee/tea/water/wine option

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 11/11/2014 00:37

I bloody love hot chocolate but I'm afraid I too have the prejudice that it's only socially acceptable for adults to drink it if it is literally snowing.

I'd never order it in a cafe or offer it to a friend.

Unless it was snowing.

OOAOML · 11/11/2014 00:38

My husband drinks this sometimes when we're out although doesn't make it at home. People are funny about drinks though - usually whoever brings our order assumes I am having the hot choc, do people think it is a 'girly' drink?

OOAOML · 11/11/2014 00:39

I think I need to make friends with zonkin I like it when people offer me wine Wink

TsukuruTazaki · 11/11/2014 00:42

I would love it if a friend served me with this when I went round to their house. Nothing weird about it, it's not as common or garden as a tea or coffee but it's great!!

ElphabaTheGreen have you tried marshmallow fluff? it's veggie and goes great on hot chocolate.

I regularly choose hot chocolate especially if it's cold.

GoingGoingGoth · 11/11/2014 00:48

The Spanish chocolate is great, and is brilliant if you whisk it up in cafetiere

Snog · 11/11/2014 06:15

Grin Grin Grin My first ever LTB advice on mumsnet!
This was a new friend not a close friend and I did also offer the usual selection of drinks and she chose hot choc. DP's comments made me feel like this was badly judged and inappropriate...interesting to see that there are some on each side of the fence on this one.
I have given up alcohol so intend to drink a lot more HC this winter, have only just started on a season of childish drinking. Thanks for the inspiration on different ways to serve.
Glad to hear not everyone thinks I have done the equivalent of serving squash in a tippee cup to my friend!

They sell veggie marshmallows nowadays! By a company called Freedom. Granted, they're only on sale in holland&barrett or other online stores atm AFAIK but they're really very good!

I love a good hot chocolate with squirty cream and veggie marshmallows... Only on special occasions though, I wouldn't really expect it popping round to a friends house.

CheerfulYank · 11/11/2014 07:41

YourbDH is totally in the wrong, hot chocolate is delicious.

Of course where I live we have snow half the year but even so. :)

Winterbells · 11/11/2014 07:48

I don't drink coffee or tea so I love a nice a mug of hot chocolate! In Costa yesterday I had 2! A cup of the black forest hot chocolate and a cup of the brownie hot chocolate. Yum!

Thanks for the veggie marshmallow tips Smile I normally get my veggie marshmallows online but they're not something that other people or cafes normally have. The tip about marshmallow fluff is genius, though! Like whipped cream and marshmallows in one! I'm sure I have some in the cupboard left over from my whoopie pie phase as well...[bang goes the diet emoticon]

RedToothBrush · 11/11/2014 09:22

I was going to say LTB, but I've been beaten to it. Clearly there is a consensus here...

Asda sell giant marshmallows. They aren't veggie but they are awesome. I drink hot chocolate in public as I hate tea and coffee. I don't understand why its considered childish to be honest. There are lots of 'grown up' chocolate bars on the market. You can add all sorts to hot chocolate to make it more 'grown up' too. DH will often to make it for me with what ever spirit happens to be in the cupboard.

Why should children get monopoly on hot chocolate?
