Basically the title says it all, I have enough in the bank to live off (frugally) for a few years. I would probably make myself less employable in the future but not so assed about that as want to be self employed.

Could you drop hours, or look for another part time position while building up you SE work?
Ultimately it you want to quit and can afford it, do it, but I would worry about the future so could not do it.

Perhaps you can take the knowledge you have from this job and use it to help you when you go s/e. I would advise you if you want to start a business capital outlay is always greater than what you expect and so I would use my savings for that.

That's the thing, I think ,4 years worth of savings is a lot, but a few months after quiting I would probably panic and look for a job. I told myself I would quit when I have 2 years, now I'm looking to save up 6 years all the while money is becoming worth less

If you can't motivate yourself in employment I'd reflect on your motivation and a business plan for self employment. Do you have the latter costed and in place?
And yes, I'm sure someone else who's desperate for work might appreciate your job if you hand in your notice.

Yes I'm kind of all ready to go with my self employment stuff.

Despite me finding office life dull, I am still very good at my job, but my heart isn't in it and it demotivates me knowing I don't really need the money

OP, assuming for the moment that you don't have DC (and possibly even if you do), what you do with your life is entirely up to you. You're in control: nobody can make you do what you don't want to do. If you're unhappy in your job and want to be self-employed, then why on earth not?

Go for it and good luck. It is miserable to do a job that bores you, and if you can manage without the wage, walk away. One of the sad things about the current economic mess is the number of people trapped in shitty, dull jobs who simply can't afford to leave. There is, after all, more to life than working for a wage.
