What is this all about? I can buy extra large pants but to buy a slim fit long leg forget it? Unless I go to a more expensive shop! It's alful that there's a market for this and not for small slim kids! I don't care what shape kids are! I just want a selection of pants in shops! It's like going to top shop and being a size 10 and them having size 12 or 20 it's a joke!!!!

I've bought slim fit Asda ones for my skinny 6 year old. They have an adjustable waist and fit him very well. They were only £3.50 as well and look very smart.

lunar1 · 05/11/2014 13:05

We get the next slim ones too. The are expensive but last really well. I'm just pleased that ds2 seems to be the same build as ds1, so all the skinny fit things can be reused.

I would also look at the girls section. I have quite a few pairs of jeans from gap girls an you can get slimmer fitting things without as much material round their bum. It might be worth looking at the girls school trousers.

Order from BHS online and they will deliver FOC to your local store.

DS is 13.5 and I have just had to get an M&S aged 16 for the leg length and take in the waist massively.

All kids are differen shapes and sizes.

foreverton · 05/11/2014 14:45

I assumed from your title that the problem you had was finding trousers for a bigger boy, that's always been my problem.
Ds is 11 but 5ft 5, size 11 (adults) shoe and built like a rugby player.
It's always been very difficult to find school trousers, I've seen tons of slim fit long leg ones.
Now I go to the uniform shop and even though they're more expensive than asda etc, they fit ds properly so sometimes the comfort of your ds should over ride your budgeting concerns ( we're by no means well off at all )
I hope you manage to find some, when you do, buy a few pairs, I'm glad I did.
( don't get me started on the ELEVEN white school shirts we've gone through since September:) )

Bunbaker · 05/11/2014 15:13

In my experience slim fit long trousers were very difficult for me to find for my tall, willowy daughter. It wasn't until she was about 12 that I could find adult size 6 trousers and jeans that fitted her properly.

I used to get frustrated at the wide availability of extra wide clothes and non availability of slimmer fitting clothes, so I understand exactly where you are coming from Loopy

TheScottishPlay · 05/11/2014 15:22

My DS is similar to yours Foreverton. Thank goodness for BHS generous fit!

firesidechat · 05/11/2014 16:57

Are you from the US op?

ouryve · 05/11/2014 17:00

Next sell slim fit trousers in as many styles as they sell plus fit.

ouryve · 05/11/2014 17:04

And I see you mentioned them, halfway down the thread.

I don't find them expensive, because they last a lot longer than any other brands I've bought.

foreverton · 05/11/2014 17:05

TheScottishPlay- Thank God I'm not the only one! It's so hard isn't it.
I thought I had it sussed as ds wore grey trousers at primary but now in secondary its black.
So had to hunt around yet again.
All of his new friends are tiny, he looks like a year 9 pupil but only has a baby face, hope his feet slow down a bit though, they're like canoes :)

Shockers · 05/11/2014 19:17

DS (yr 10) gets his from Top Man.

He vanishes when he turns sideways Wink

TinklyLittleLaugh · 05/11/2014 19:30

A very large proportion of the North of England uses the word "pants" for "trousers". It's really not that remarkable.Hmm

sickntiredtoo · 05/11/2014 19:40

Small and slim is ok you just go down a size or 2, it's tall and slim that's the problem.
A school outfitters has a range of slim and 'cuddly' sizes

itiswhatitiswhatitis · 05/11/2014 19:44

Sorry OP but I agree with others there are loads of slim/skinny fit trousers out their for kids these days

OwlCapone · 05/11/2014 19:48

Ds is 11 but 5ft 5, size 11 (adults) shoe and built like a rugby player.

DS2 is a similar height. I got him men's trousers from Primark in a short leg length.

hazeyjane · 05/11/2014 19:52

I have seen a fair few places selling slim fit trousers.

Trying to find trousers to fit ds is a bloody nightmare, he has very short legs, and wears a nappy - plus fit accommodate the nappy but are about 5 inches too long and huge in the waist.

foreverton · 05/11/2014 21:10

Thanks owl:) it makes sense to do that, I found some in men's section of Matalan aswell.
I suppose it's just as hard to have a small/tall/skinny/chunky child.
Clothes sizes vary so much for dc, just feels strange buying men's stuff for my "baby" but that's just the way it is now.

Madamecastafiore · 05/11/2014 21:14

M&S do bigger waisted slim fit trousers.

Sirzy · 05/11/2014 21:15

DS is very slim (on the 4th centile for bmi if you can trust that!) and I have found next slim fit to be the best especially for school trousers.

cardibach · 05/11/2014 21:16

Size 20 in TopShop? Where?

Bunbaker · 05/11/2014 21:23

"Sorry OP but I agree with others there are loads of slim/skinny fit trousers out their for kids these days"

Yes there are, but they were all way too short for DD.

ouryve · 05/11/2014 21:24

DS2 is currently going to school in trousers that are too short for him. He has permission to wear plain black joggers, as he has SN and not only can he not manage certain fastenings, he absolutely insists on walking around with them undone if someone fastens them for him. His size 8 joggers are lovely on the waist, but level with the top of his socks. The size 9s fall down, so we end up with the original problem of his arse hanging out for much of the day!
