To think we can drive up to the Emirates Stadium?

We are soon going to a match at the Emirates Stadium a treat apparently and DH is wondering what the chances are of parking anywhere near the stadium?
It would cost us £60 on a coach and £120 on the train so driving is a cheaper option but don't know if it's possible
TIA

So if you're coming from south you'll be driving around London to get to the end of the Vic or Piccadilly line. And that in itself is a pain in the arse.

FisherQueen · 04/11/2014 21:45

I used to live opposite the Emirates (Hornsey road) - not only will you not get parked nearby but you need to keep an eye on the tube stations as well. They restrict access to Holloway Road after a certain time (or they used to) and make it exit only. Finsbury Park, Highbury and Islington or the Arsenal (although it will be rammed!) are all better bets.

AllFallDown · 05/11/2014 19:43

If you're going to a weekday match, then parking not too far away is much easier, because parking restrictions end at 6.30pm - but you would still be a stiff walk from the stadium. However, if you're driving up from the south coast, you'd be insane to try to get anywhere near the stadium, because you'd be coming right across London in the rush hour and you'd probably end up missing the game. I would suggest parking somewhere near Brixton or Vauxhall in south London, then getting the Victoria Line up to Highbury and Islington or Finsbury Park.

Goodness, it's a good job I didn't post my advice (loads of waste ground car parks with cheap parking for the day, loads of people park on the main road, you can always park on the Eastlands ASDA car park etc). I was mixing the Emirates stadium up with the Etihad stadium in Manchester. D'oh!

Andrewofgg · 05/11/2014 20:13

Starling I hope you have a good satnav Smile

Inmyownlittlecorner · 05/11/2014 20:27

I live opposite the stadium & it's hard for us to park!
I would pay for the train. Way less stressful!

Neffi · 05/11/2014 20:31

Buy a family and friends railcard which gives you 30% off adult tickets and 60% off the kids. That must make the train fare cheaper but as my maths is rubbish I'll leave you to work it out.

loveulotslikejellytots · 05/11/2014 20:47

DH has a season ticket and goes up every week. If he doesn't do tube and train he drives to Stratford, parks in Westfield shopping centre (£6 for 24 hours I think), walks through the shopping centre to the tube station and it's about 10 mins to Highbury and Islington tube station.

traviata · 05/11/2014 20:56

'Group save' on Southern will make the train tickets much cheaper, it's worth calling in at your local station and asking them because the Southern website is rubbish.

I know you said weekday, but for example, at weekends DC go for £1 each from Brighton, but you can only get it at the station not online.

Megabus, then tube?
I took my son up for the stadium tour earlier in the year from Bristol, return was about£15 each to Kings Cross, then got the tube, was actually fairly stress free.

BBear · 05/11/2014 21:12

Private message me and I'll try to sort out a visitors permit We live about 10 mins walk away. No problem

Enjoy!!

i live near the stadium. I couldn't imagine trying to park anywhere near it. I would go to some tube station far out and get to finsbury park or highbury (is it open) by tube and walk.

Charley50 · 05/11/2014 21:34

You can park at Bounds Green. It's just off the north circular. Then get the Picadilly line a few stops.
Tbh the train is much more pleasant from the coast than driving. Probably quicker too.

Andcake · 05/11/2014 21:36

Slim to none and traffic wardens out in force. Have never seen residents offering spaces mostly as mist people have residents parking on the street. Park a bit further out and tube it in.

Amateurish · 05/11/2014 22:01

I drove to the emirates a couple of weeks ago and parked on Hillmarton Rd which is only about 10 min walk away. It is outside the match day parking restrictions and free to park in the evening. Worth knowing.
