Pissed off with bugaboo! Within warranty but they won't fix pushchair!!

To cut a long story short,
I have a bugaboo cameleon3 that was purchased by my friend who works at john Lewis.
She got a discount. As a result, the puschair is in her name, and she had it delivered to her address then brought to my baby shower.
The puschair was purchased brand new in August 2013.
Last weekend whilst out with my son, the handle bar broke and I was furious!!! It was incredibly unsafe for my son and so I took it straight back to john lewis who gave me a replacement bee and sent the cskeleton off to be repaired.
I receive a phone call from john Lewis stating bugaboo won't fix as out of warranty, even though I have supplied proof of purchase!!!!!!!!
The serial number on the chassis indicates that the pushchair is 2 years old, and that is wrong!!! The puschair is 14 months old and under warranty yet despite prof of purchase bugaboo do not believe me!!
As puschair in friends name they won't speak to me about it when I rang, are not sympathetic to the situation and my sons safety and insulted me by implying the pushchair is out of warranty and that I must have got it second hand.
I don't know how the chassis has a different date!!
John Lewis are fighting with bugaboo to get this sorted.
I have sent a nasty email to bugaboo to complain.
I feel let down by bugaboo, why have I invested £800+ in a puschair that is not fit for purpose?!!!!!! Then to make matters worse they won't even fix for some unknown error to me?!! Not to mention the risk they out my son in!! A pushchair of this kind should not develop such a fault!! Not after 14 months!!
Anyone have any advice, I'm leavng john lewis to sort but I'm getting stressed!!

Steelo - you're not the first owner. Your friend bought it. You then bought it off your friend. It was second hand when you bought it.

bigbluestars · 05/11/2014 18:48

steel - you bought the pushchair- it was second hand when you bought it.

You are the second owner. THe warranty is only valid for the first owner. You can lie to Bugaboo and JL if you like but the fact remains that this buggy was second hand when you bought it and the warranty no longer applies.
Have you read what everyone has said on this thread.

Steelojames · 05/11/2014 18:48

We have stated pushchair was a gift. From her to me as that is the case

Bugaboo want to know your friend's details because according to JL it is your friend who bought the pushchair. And JL and Bugaboo need to know

  • is your friend fleecing JL out of money by fraudulently using her discount card

or

  • are you the owner of a second hand pushchair, in which case Bugaboo have no obligation to stand over the warranty.

it can't be both - it has to be one or the other. Good luck. I suspect your friend is going to need it.

fourwoodenchairs · 05/11/2014 18:50

As the pushchair was bought in her name she will have to deal with it. Simple really.

Steelojames · 05/11/2014 18:50

Sorry it is soo hard to read in detail. I just got home and rarely get time to read with son. I do understand. So my friend needs to deal with it directly as in her name? I back out?

OP posts:
FrauHelga · 05/11/2014 18:51

it wasn't a gift if you paid for it.

"thing given willingly without payment" - that's the definition of a gift.

Steelojames · 05/11/2014 18:51

I'm not giving JL the replacement bugaboo bee back until this sorted. So they need to deal with it soon if they want it back.

Steelojames · 05/11/2014 18:52

Friend no longer works at JL

OP posts:
Steelojames · 05/11/2014 18:53

Still doesn't explain why chassis States puschair older than it is.
That is what bugaboo have problem with!

OP posts:
LIZS · 05/11/2014 18:54

yes , as stated by many posters further down , the contract is between your friend and JL so it is for them to resolve it. Bugaboo would deal with JL not you or your friend.

Chippednailvarnish · 05/11/2014 18:54

You seem selfishly oblivious to the shitstorm of trouble you're about to cause your friend.

LIZS · 05/11/2014 18:55

The chassis could have been sat in a warehouse or stockroom or been on display for many months before it was sold.

fourwoodenchairs · 05/11/2014 18:55

Yes Steel.

Your friend needs to email bugaboo directly from her email account, attaching a picture of the receipt. Then a description of the fault.

I'm pretty sure I've got an email address for a lady @ bugaboo I dealt with recently. I will PM you if I can find it.

LIZS · 05/11/2014 18:57

Just because she is no longer an employee doesn't put her in the clear btw. In fact they may decide to scrutinise other transactions put through her staff card.

Steelojames · 05/11/2014 18:57

She doesn't work their anymore so what trouble?
Thanks fourwoodenchairs

OP posts:
Chippednailvarnish · 05/11/2014 18:59

Well, durrr it's technically fraud, that's the trouble.

Hmm
Steelojames · 05/11/2014 18:59

She is now a trainee teacher so no longer linked in anyway

OP posts:
Steelojames · 05/11/2014 18:59

JL are not disputing her purchase for me

JL are not disputing her purchase for me

Never wondered why they wanted her employment dates...?

Steelojames · 05/11/2014 19:02

Bugaboo want not JL.

OP posts:
lurkerspeaks · 05/11/2014 19:14

Seriously. You could be getting your friend into masses of trouble. If the pick up that she has done this once (buy something expensive to "gift") then they may well go through her transactions.

I don't know what the JL discount policy is after you leave employment but I suspect you could still be prosecuted retrospectively for your actions whilst you WERE in employment.

If I was your friend I would now be very pissed off with you. You are jeopardising her future (a fraud conviction will affect employment). Either get her to deal with it or write it off as a bad experience and pay to get the buggy fixed.

I agree with the others your friend was the first owner and you were the second. How many friends give it each other brand new 800 quid pushchairs. Not many I would imagine! One of my friends gave away her 3 year old bugaboo which had been used for one child and we all thought that was an extravagant gift!

bigbluestars · 05/11/2014 19:20

steelo- you did say in your first post that you paid your friend £800 for the buggy. It wasn't a gift from her.

Steelojames · 05/11/2014 19:23

So u suggest I pay to fix?
Why should I have too? My friend and I are equally pissed of not at each other, none of this is of my making!

OP posts:
Steelojames · 05/11/2014 19:25

What has that got to do with it?
I gave her money yes.
Despite that, the underlying issue is we have a pushchair that has broken after 14 months....it should not have broken and it needs to be fixed as in warranty still. Surely that is the bottom line?
