AIBU?

To think a plate of meat is not "dinner"

This might sound petty but me and DP have just had a big argument about this and aren't talking!

DP cooked dinner tonight. Normally we eat earlier with the children but today he suggested we eat after they're in bed.

He had bought two packs of prepared chicken breasts from Aldi last time he went shopping - the "ready to cook" types, one was hunters chicken and the other was a mini roast with sausage and stuffing.

When he presents dinner, it was a plate with one hunters chicken breast, one chicken breast with gravy, a sausage and stuffing. Nothing else Confused

We have had this issue before, as although he is a good cook he sometimes serves meals which I feel lack a basic part - I know it is possible to skip carbs but generally I think a meal requires protein, veg and carbs. He will make for example just fish and rice with no veg, or stir fried veg/meat with no rice or noodles.

Anyway, a massive plate of chicken was a step to far for me and I did complain about it not being a meal and being a waste of money. He feels aggrieved.

AIBU?

Seven - the freezer is bursting with every kind of frozen veg you could want, peas, beans, broccoli, cauliflower. He even prepared fresh carrots for the DC tea an hour before!

Worst I ever heard was some vegan friends who were invited to dinner by an enthusiastic carnivore - he served them chips, rice and pasta - mixed together and nothing else Envy

I think my DH would win the 'Worst meal EVER' award: smoked haddock and new potatoes....with Bisto gravy poured all over.

Boak.

He got ridiculously shirty when I complained, threw a hissy fit and sulked for the rest of the night. Idiot.

I saw someone at the canteen last week with a (big) helping of some pasta bake AND (lots of) chips. My idea of an unnecessary, unhealthy food combo.

Now lasagne and chips is something I can get on board with...

The first meal my dh made me was toad I the hole - was impressed.

The second was frozen pizza and rice Confused

That's not a meal and the mix of sauces plus stuffing is vile.

Due to ds being a fussy sod, veggies are well hidden so dh will comment on the lack of veg. Sssshh!

I made Nigella's ham in coke last Christmas and some of my meals over the next few days consisted entirely of yummy ham.

EveDallas that's the Funniest thing on this thread haha .
My Dp cooks only one meal but he's so good at it, it's only spaghetti bolognese but it's the best I've ever tasted Grin.

I had a boyfriend when I was a teen who would make a stew out of that tinned "steak" in gravy you get (used to get?).

It was actually quite nice Blush

lol hollie

did he give any explanation as to his food combination, and decision to forgo any and all of the veg in the freezer? Grin

When he dished you up the chicken fillet with mixed sauces combo did you look at it like this Confused

There was a thread about tinned potatoes not long back where I may have confessed that my guilty pleasure is tinned potatoes, tinned steak, peas and cayenne Grin

It went like this:

"Is this just a plate of chicken and nothing else?"
"No"
"Oh, sorry - what is it" (as I scrape the BBQ sauce off one breast and peer at it)
"There's a sausage and stuffing too"

Me: Angry

That sounds like the sort of thing my DH would cook for himself if I wasn't there. Sounds odd considering he bakes cakes and bread. He obviously know his way around the kitchen.

But my philsophy is "you don't complain about what I cook and I won't complain about what you cook". If DH served this to me I would have just said, "I'm gonna just do a few peas with mine". They only take a few mins in the microwave. No big deal. No need to add carbs.

Yeah, I probably should have just got myself some peas. I was pretty angry though.

Froggio I agree. If someone has been good enough to cook for me then I dont complain (unless it is genuinely inedible, not happened yet!) and equally I dont expect anyone to moan about a meal I made for them.

The best meal I ever ate was when I was just out of hospital with appendicitis. Feeling very sore after my op and DH took the kids for a long weekend with his dad, long booked and I was happy with him going. My best friend insisted I stay with her and she cooked me scampi nuggets with microwave white and wild rice. Not a combination I would choose but it was all she had in until the next day and she cooked it with love. It was wonderful :)

No, YANBU. I am not a vegetarian/vegan, I like meat of all kinds. However, I always balance the meat with vegetables.

If you're like majorly pissed at him for this, then YABU. But if you're just kinda annoyed, then I would be too.

It's like something my DH would do cuz he burnt vegetables - did you check he didn't mess up the vegetables or something.
