You had better move somewhere drier?

The amount of times people have been shocked and unable to leave the house because of the weather is unbelievable!

YOU. WILL.NOT.MELT....

Well am I?

My dd comes up in hives if she is in contact with rain water on her skin (dust and pollen particles in the rain rather than water itself) so she covers up and makes sure she always has an umbrella to protect her face. If she can cope with being out in the rain then anyone can.

Fluffyears · 02/11/2014 12:29

Try Scotland. Our public transport fails in the rain and rain is not really a surprise up here!

bronya · 02/11/2014 12:36

Now I'm allergic to rain (really am, I get terrible hives from it and have to have a shower asap if I get wet) and I still manage to have an outdoor hobby and to walk the dog/toddler in all weathers. Quite simple really, a trip to an outdoor clothing store, full waterproofs and wellies. If there's an issue (a leak for example), I just shower afterwards and wait until the hives go down and the itching stops. It's not the end of the world!

PurplePidjin · 02/11/2014 12:42

I hate the rain.

I do however love getting home to a hot chocolate and soak in the bath. So I endure the getting wet part because it means I get to do the getting dry part. And because ds looks cute shouting Plash as he jumps in the puddles :o

Hairtodaygonetomorrow · 02/11/2014 12:43

I don't go out with wellies and a mac on, but I still don't mind the rain. Get a huge umbrella, it's rarely so terrible you can't venture out with one, and if it is windy and pouring, then your waterproofs are uncomfortable and rain starts dripping everywhere anyway. I hate the idea I have to look less fashionable due to the rain, so just dress normally and carry an umbrella!

WorraLiberty · 02/11/2014 12:46

YANBU

You can see the traffic on the school run literally double around here, when it rains Confused

thursday · 02/11/2014 12:55

Nowt wrong with not liking getting wet. We get loads of rain here, and life would grind to a halt if we didn't go out in the rain so YANBU. suck it up, get a good coat and boots and you're off.

WooWooOwl · 02/11/2014 13:01

I only do being out in the rain if there's a valid reason for it. Like to get from one dry place to another dry place, or if there's something essential, like putting the rubbish out.

Otherwise I just don't see the need for being out in the rain. It tends to stop at some point, and so far there have been no dire consequences in making the dog wait an hour for his walk.

BabyDubsEverywhere · 02/11/2014 13:08

I see rain as an excuse to not go out... because I don't like going out. Perhaps your facebook friends are doing the same thing?

Bunbaker · 02/11/2014 13:31

"I hate the idea I have to look less fashionable due to the rain"

Hmm
Dawndonnaagain · 02/11/2014 13:45

There are some people who really can't go out in the rain. Dd gets hypothermia, sat in a wheelchair unable to move, getting wet and cold is not funny.

Marylou62 · 02/11/2014 13:48

I think it is the thought of going out...I have to walk the dog...if it is torrential all day, howling a gale and cold then he can go without..(luckily tho he's a springer he is a very calm quiet dog) BUT...when I have taken the plunge, dressed accordingly ....I can actually love it...like a PP though, as a glasses wearer it can be a pain...then in, dry dog, warm dry clothes, cuppa and biscuit and a sense of 'job well done'..

.And I didn't have a car when DCs at primary...so we HAD to walk....it was awful sometimes and thoroughly miserable...journey home better than there as we could all get changed and warm..but there is nothing worse than having to put on a wet coat because it hasn't had time to dry..

I lived in South America for a while...it hardly rained and I never missed it...missed the seasons though....

fabricfreeshiner · 02/11/2014 14:18

I have to agree muddy parks are the worst. The kids get wet muddy grumpy and then stuck on the slide Hmm.

I didn't know you could be allergic to it though Shock

Honeezreturnofthelivingdead · 02/11/2014 14:25

DS plays footy. I spend 50% of my life standing in the rain.
I haven't melted Hmm
But sometimes think it would be easier to be naked Grin

museumum · 02/11/2014 14:25

I hate the rain because I cycle commute and it's so much more dangerous in the rain - visibility is reduced, stopping distances increase, pedestrians in hoods step into the road before looking, there are more cars and people just seem to drive more impatiently :(
I don't like to cycle with 1yr old ds in the bike seat if the rain is really heavy.

CMOTDibbler · 02/11/2014 14:32

Ds's school uniform coat is a waterproof shell// zip out fleece combo, and yrR-2 have to have wellies in school. It has to be torrential for them to not be out playing, and games is outside whatever the weather.
They all seem to be alive still, though every year theres a letter home reminding parents of the any weather policy

We're British, moaning about the weather is our national sport Grin.

It's the unpredictability that annoys me. You only have to plan anything that requires being outdoors (BBQ, school fete/camping holiday etc) and you are guaranteed that it will piss it down, or be generally cold/wet/windy, which is just bloody miserable.

And here we are, in November, with the weather better than it was in most of August FFS. I went out for a walk earlier and ended up carrying my coat most of the way because it was quite warm.

YABU to say that people should just move somewhere with better weather though, most people can't just up sticks to another country due to the need to earn money etc.

Though I wouldn't mind a cold snowy winter because then I will get to wear my Merrell snow boots that I bought in the sale last year when it did not snow at all.

Bunbaker · 02/11/2014 15:18

The Hmm was because I tend to find that I only walk around in wet weather when at occasions like agricultural shows, visiting an outdoor attraction like a zoo or on country walks where fashion is the last thing on my mind. If I want to look fashionable or smart I tend not to be in situations that require being in the rain for lengthy periods, in which case I would probably have an umbrella with me.

Bigleap · 02/11/2014 15:32

Some people don't like the rain but I did a 10k race with 750 people who were more than happy to be out in the wet this morning.

Which group is oddest? Grin

Toooldtobearsed · 02/11/2014 15:36

I LOVE walking the dog in the rain, we can go for hours! All the softies are indoors, leaving us to run wild. If it is particularly heavy, even better, we can splash in puddles without being judged.
I have all the gear, so usually as dry as dust when we get home, dog is not however, but he is very happy and usually exhaustedGrin
Would far rather walk in rain than high winds, really don't enjoy windy day walking....

InvasionOfTheBodyShatners · 02/11/2014 15:36

Getting rained on makes me miserable. I was born here, I didn't move here for the climate, so I'm entitled to grumble.

Emigration would be a huge overreaction, and far less convenient for my friends and family than having to listen to me moan a bit Grin

fabricfreeshiner · 02/11/2014 15:59

I think football every week must be hell on earth and well done for staying Grin

Sorry to all those who get ill in the wet weather, that must be hard and it's also bad for arthritis sufferers too. I think there's alot of jogging addicts about Wink

Wow a ten k race is amazing! Grin and I bet the weather was refreshing as it wasn't freezing today.

I've found the ultimate might be unneccessary toy, snow scooter anyone?

At our school we take the kids outside always, they have to stay in the shelter if they don't have coats. Wet plays are a nightmare for middays and we would rather be on the playground in the rain. The kids are fine and it teaches them to remember their coats. They need the fresh air.
