Pointing out mistakes on MN !

To hate it when people point out spelling mistakes and typos.

People ask for advice when they are worried, unsure etc and the first line of the first reply is about a spelling mistake. How is that helpful or supportive.

Typing on a phone screen , as I'm doing, is guaranteed to cause mistakes. Also the person may be dyslexic or out of practice.

Let people ask for advice free from criticism.

Rant over. I'm sure this post will now be scrutinised for errors.

If people want their posts to be understood and answered then they should make an effort to spell and use correct grammar so others know what on earth they are asking. It is usually (always!) clear whether it is a typo or sheer ignorance. Surely if people are making mistakes they would want to know so they could correct them?

youarealbonkers. The posts can be understood. If someone uses of instead of have, their instead if there or types alot instead of a lot, it's still perfectly clear what they mean and you have to be a special kind of arse to point out their mistakes.

One of my very good friends is well educated, has a very broad general knowledge, is lovely, kind, helpful etc but she cannot spell or remember the 'rules'. It's not through lack of trying, she just simply cannot make it stick.

She stopped posting here because of the comments she kept getting :(

People want to post, to join in, to get & give advice. Life is about a lot more than SPaG.

youareallbonkers I don't think I've ever seen a post on here that was indecipherable owing to poor spelling or grammar yet. Not one.
Maybe you ought to brush up on your reading and comprehension skills? I know you won't mind me saying that, seeing as I'm trying to help you.

Aggravating isn't it? Wink Grin

BlueberryWafer · 03/11/2014 16:10

Yanbu.

The only time it is acceptable is when a poster has been correcting others then proceeds to make a mistake. Then it is perfectly acceptable to point this out Grin

Blueberry agreed. And it is soooo sweet!
