Grown men trick or treating and terrifying my children

Aggressive knock on the door, open it to no one there, DS peaks out, two blokes in scary masks jump out making noises and threatening moves. My DD runs screaming away from the door. Then the two men ask for chocolate.

It was tonight. My SIL had just come over and said she saw them doing it on our street so at least she was there to sort of warn us as it was happening and not freak out.

Surely there is no way this is OK. I don't think they were British and could only think maybe it's a tradition somewhere else? Who wouldn't be terrified though? They were not teenagers.

Later went to bring in my pumpkins and they'd been knocked down.

ummm, call the Cops ? Not to drag them away or anything, but please do give the police a heads up.

How did you know they weren't teenagers? My DS was 5'10" and had a deep voice at 14. Did they take their masks off?
I think anyone trick or treating ought to mind their manners, but I've had some very nasty encounters over the years with children, including having eggs thrown. It's one of those festivals that can go very wrong, with people thinking they've been given freedom to do what they like.

They sound pissed and probably did it for a laugh. I would have slammed the door in their face.

That's really not an OK thing to do. Trick or treating is for children.

Not grown ups. Or even teenagers.

As an adult, knocking on a stranger's door at night with a mask covering your face and asking them to give you stuff is obnoxious and likely to frighten.

Seems it was mentioned as a possible reason, as in, maybe they do that in their home country. Don't think the op was having a go at 'foreigners'

They could have been late teens possibly but were built like men and had a sort of confident demeanor that would be rare in adolescence, no matter how drunk or high. Kids would be nervous or laughing, I think.

Anyway, it's all over now. I'll ask my neighbours what they thought.

Surely Halloween is meant to be terrifying and 'trick or treating' is nothing more than demanding money with menaces, so they were actually entering into the spirit of the thing.

It does sound strange; the oldest trick or treaters round my way are about 13 or 14 and look it, they usually go quite shy and are polite and say 'happy Halloween'. Maybe I'm lucky!

LOL at Halloween being terrifying and demanding money with menaces- we had only two lots of cute children under 6/7 yesterday dressed as skeletons and they came away with...chocolate bars! No-one gives money, only people who don't like Halloween would say this!

I do think it is good though that in general, it seems that people who do like Halloween put pumpkins/Halloween signs out and then the rest are left alone. Much clearer, although my friend (with a very 'scary' adorable 4 year old) said apparently one person put up a sign saying no callers but it was in the shape and colour of a pumpkin- so lots of people were knocking!

I also love the fact that these scary men asked for chocolate. It does sound weird that adults were doing it- but I have to say it doesn't sound very malicious if all they were hoping for was a KitKat.

Well I hope they enjoyed my hand crafted ghost lollipops.

They were probably teens. We had quite a few groups of teens. Doesn't bother me at all.

I think they were probably teenage boys too. Having seen quite a few teenage boys during my rugby watching years, some are built like men whilst others are still boy shaped.
