To expect to be back into my pre-pregnancy footwear?

11 weeks post birth & I'm getting a bit down about it. The weather no longer allows for flip flops!
Extra wide fits are not cutting it - I can only wear my old ASIC running trainers. I do NOT want to live in these for the foreseeable future.

I'm breastfeeding so can't take the fluid reducing tablets. And I don't want to stop, it was a real struggle to get established due to a bad case of tongue tie - it only really started clicking in at 5/6 weeks.

For context, I was signed off work with fluid problems at 28 weeks & didn't return so I did have higher than average levels but sheesh.....

For Christmas all I want is to wear my engagement & wedding rings again!

So any hints or tips? Or any suggestions for extra extra extra wide footwear?!!

I had 40 plus pairs of 3.5 heels pre pregnancy. Never back in them. Ever. Arches dropped after two big babies. I wept as I gave them away.

SeptemberBabies · 30/10/2014 19:47

I'm 5 weeks post birth.

My feet are longer (about 1/2 to 1 size) but not wider.

Also in a pair of trainers since nothing apart from flip flops fit.

"I wept as I gave them away."

My saving grace is that eldest DD (10) now fits in my pre-pregnancy shoe size. Her shoe collection has suddenly for much bigger and quite grown up Hmm

littlewoollypervert · 30/10/2014 19:50

Dsis & Dmum both went up a size & never went back down...

rootypig · 30/10/2014 19:53

If it's definitely fluid, gravity and exercise. Gravity: lie on your bed, on your back, legs up the wall, as close to 90 degrees as you can get, and stay there for ten minutes. Do it morning and night. It does help. Exercise: something that will get your legs going: running, cycling, vigorous swimming.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 30/10/2014 19:54

I went up 1/2 a size and never reduced, but longer rather than wider. Sad

MrsToddsShortcut · 30/10/2014 19:55

I went up a shoe size. I thought I was going crazy until the nice lady in the shoe shop explained that all the relaxed ligaments and extra weight/pressure during pregnancy stretch your feet and they often just stay that way.

MrsPiggie · 30/10/2014 19:55

I can't suggest anything for fluid retention, but try going one size up in shoes as well as extra wide. My feet have grown half a size during pregnancy, never to go back (considering that was 6 years ago). Not wider, just longer. So many pairs of shoes wasted...

harrowgreen · 30/10/2014 19:59

I went up a size and a half about #2. Was fine after #1 - really bizarre.

About to having #3 and hoping the same thing doesn't happen: I really need/want new shoes but don't dare buy them until after the birth. I must have about 20 pairs which are just no use anymore...

harrowgreen · 30/10/2014 20:00

after not about...

SunnaStrangeInTheNeighbourhood · 30/10/2014 20:00

I gained a half size with each pregnancy. Started as a 5 and am now a 6.

superram · 30/10/2014 20:05

Was 5.5-6 now 7 wide fit. Very sad Hmm

BikeRunSki · 30/10/2014 20:15

My feet have got permanently bigger too. Which means I am now 8.5 to 9, and its very hard to find shoes that fit. Was bad enough when I was 7.5-8.

SASASI · 30/10/2014 20:25

Yous are depressing me big style!!

So many pairs of irregular choice & KG in my wardrobe :(

I've always been 6.5 or a 7 but I'm not tall so shoes always looked massive on me as it was! Wide feet before pregnancy :(?

Yep, I also went up 1/2 a size with both pregnancies, now a full size larger.

In length which is annoying as I always had a narrow foot and now it's worse.

marymouse · 30/10/2014 20:35

pre children I was a size 5.5
three children later I'm now a 7 and youngest is 22mths Sad

petswinprizes · 30/10/2014 20:47

How did I never know that this bigger feet thing happened? I've gone from 7 to 7.5, so not a massive change, but 7's usually too small and 8's too big so often have shoes with insoles. I also had lots of fluid, but much of it disappeared within 2 weeks of birth - 3 stones worth!!!! (although that's including a 10.5 lb baby).
Evans do really wide shoes, and there's a slipper company (flipflot?) that do wide ones too, although definitely for comfort rather than style. Go shopping, ignore the sizes and find something you like. If you're feet stay the same size you have shoes you like. If they start shrink, get insoles until hopefully you're back in the shoes you love.

Libitina · 30/10/2014 20:53

My son is 21 now and I went from a size 5 to a 6. Only in the last year or so have my feet started to shrink a bit and I'm now down to around a 5.5.

DustBunnyFarmer · 30/10/2014 21:22

My feet never went back to pre-baby size (length & width). My youngest is nearly 7... Still in denial about rehoming my lovely Hobbs and Hispanitas shoes. Sad

hiccupgirl · 30/10/2014 21:49

A ray of hope here, my feet went back to slightly smaller than prepregnancy!

Before I was 6.5-7 with wide feet. I had a lot of fluid and developed pre-eclampsia. Towards the end I could only wear one pair of boots that didn't actually zip up. By 3 months after giving birth my feet went down to 6-6.5 and have stayed there there. Still wide fit but def around 1/2 a size smaller. I had to get rid of some shoes that were too big.
