First time posting here, not sure if I am being unreasonable but I work as a pharmacy technician for a uk pharmacy chain which has a few branches spread out in the area where I live. I am contracted to work 30 hours per week in a store about a 10 minute drive from where I live and as dh and I share a car he leaves me to and from work each day before leaving for work himself. Recently there has been a shortage of those who can perform my role in my area and my manager has given my mobile number to various other stores without my permission and now I am inundated with calls on my day off from other stores looking for me to work for them which I cannot do as I have no means of making a 30 mile round trip to the various other stores. This is becoming very annoying as it has been happening every week and I have explained the situation multiple times to my manager who seems to think I should be making an effort to be available to work in other stores. This is not in my contract. AIBU in refusing to work in the other stores?

YANBU but you could ask them if they'd pay for a taxi (assuming you want the hours).

Wow. Of course YANBU. Each Time you get a call just tell that person you are not and never will be available so don't call again.

If you have explained it already and they are paying no attention then I wouldn't bother flogging a dead horse. Either don't answer your phone to unknown numbers on your day off or anytime a different branch phones you and you answer tell them that you are unable to work for them on your day off and that xxx (the manager) has always been aware of that and it's a pity that he has wasted their time. Then save that number as "don't answer" in your contacts.

Do you have a HR dept? You could ask if your manager is allowed to hand out your private mobile number willy-nilly, and if not make a complaint so that he stops. But on the whole just ignoring the calls will probably be the easiest option.

is it in your contract?
do you miss calls when you are at work?
travel to and from work is your problem I believe

Is this your personal mobile number? Or work mobile?

If its your personal number that is a MASSIVE no, and its worth contacting HR as it sounds like a breach in the data protection act for employees.

As for the people calling, just state they are calling on a private number and they can contact by email or on an office number (better yet give them your managers direct office line and see how they like it!).

R4roger - Working in other stores is not in my contract and was never mentioned at the time of my application three years ago, however those starting in the past year have it in their contracts that they may be required to work in other stores. I know travel to work is a slight problem for me but as long as I am working in my current store my dh and I are coping fine. Sadly a second car is not an option at the minute.

Timeforabiscuit - this is my personal number as I do not have a work mobile. I am not in a high enough position to receive a company phone and do not have the finances to buy a separate phone for work

I would flag it up with your manager that it is intruding on your personal time and you are feeling harassed.

FWIW the disclosure of a personal number is a massive no-no. The fact your manager felt they could do it tells me immediately that your employers do not take their obligations under the DPA seriously. Given that they are a fucking PHARMACY and will be dealing with peoples highly sensitive data, then this matter is in no way trivial.

If it were I, stuff HR. Get in touch with your legal team. ICO fines can top £500,000.
