Usually it's a teen thing. How can anyone know 2500 people? I don't remember knowing that many when I was a teenager.

This will no doubt be my dd in a few years time.

I have 200 but they are nearly all family, friends and the parents of my dd's friends. Mostly.

When I was a teen we all used Myspace. Same thing happened there. It was for attention mostly, a few friends of mine added everybody and anybody and accepted everything so that when they posted "I'm feeling down right now..." They'd get a load of "Aw, Y hun?" replies and lots of messages and would ignore those of us who actually cared about them. I was a fanfiction writer and was a member of some role play groups so I had quite a few people who I didn't know IRL but communicated with daily.

The most I've racked up is about 300? I knew all of them. On FB I've knocked down the number to around 30-40 people I saw regularly or wanted to keep in contact with (rather than people I was keeping on so that I could be nosey about their lives!) and it stayed that way until fairly recently when I started adding MNers and this week I've started adding other Ratty people after a local Rat Meet organised by our breeder!

off i think FB has an algorithm that bumps up more important events or people whose profiles you look at more or something - i don't know how it works exactly. also i have about 200 friends so i wouldn't know how that works in practice with 1000s of friends. i think you can put people into different groups depending on how much of their stuff you want to see (i haven't done this, seems like a lot of effort, but i'm sure some people do)

but tbh i'm probably talking to those people in private groups anyway so i know what is going on in their lives

FBs algorithm is crap, I see posts by two or three people and that's it Hmm I have to manually look everybody else up as they rarely appear in my feed.

Grin @ 'aw y Hun' I've seen that kind of thing as well.

I have about 52 friends. No family members apart from DD and the wife of a cousin. The older member of my family don't have Facebook and I doubt that the younger members would want me as a friend.

I don't "talk" to friends on Facebook because I prefer to talk on the phone or see them in real life.

There are girls in DD's year (10) who have thousands of friends and some creepy looking followers. IMO it looks a tad needy and I don't get this at all. DD is very careful about who she accepts as a friend and only has a hundred or so FB friends, and they are all people she knows.
