To be heartily displeased and dissatisfied with my new KitchenAid

So my lovely 14 year old one died recently and my super-lovely son bought me a new one to replace it. I use it several times a day making bread etc so it's not a vanity thing. The first one came and made a terrible motor noise when working but even worse was the way the arm bit jumped up and down very noisily when kneading bread. So it was bought at Amazon and they're very reasonable so I sent it back. I had e mailed KitchenAid and they acknowledged my query but still, 4 weeks later, haven't got back to me.
The new machine arrived and whilst the motor is quieter it's still doing this crazy push up and crash down thing when kneading. I'm sure my old one didn't do this so AIBU to be very very pissed off at a £300 piece of kitchen equipment being so very - what? Useless or annoying or displeasing or all 3.

Anyone else have one - it's the basic Classic model and does yours do this? TIA

I would send this one back as well that doesn't sound right, I have a fairly modern one and it doesn't do this.........

ChaosK · 29/10/2014 10:31

That's not a well kitchenaid! Mine doesn't do that so complain more.
My Kitchenaid coffee machine blew up recently. The service I got from kitchenaid was fantastic - they tried to repair it - then replaced it. Really helpful etc.

OraProNobis · 29/10/2014 10:57

Oh thank you so much! I was beginning to think it was me because it's the second one

Chaos - who did you deal with about your problem - only they don't seem to have a UK Twitter presence, their webform - well, they ignored me! What else can I try. It was bought from Amazon but they just replace mindlessly - do you think I should have it replaced again? I have no confidence now that the next one will be any different!

You could return it to Amazon and then buy a replacement from John Lewis? They have excellent customer service......

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 29/10/2014 14:25

I've just tried one here at work...was bought 8w ago and it definitely doesn't do that!

roulade · 29/10/2014 14:28

This is the customer service number. They are really good. 0800 988 1266

I think I would send the video to both Amazon and Kitcchn Maid and ask for a solution to the problem

I have a kitchenaid and it does do something similar with bread dough , but not nearly to the same extent! It looks like there is something with the slide to unlock / lift mechanism on the side?

LookAtMyLunch · 29/10/2014 15:23

It isn't locking in the lowered position. When the motor is raised up you can see an adjustment screw just above the bowl. This has to be turned (clockwise iirc) to lower the bottom stop position. You want it to be such that the beater just avoids contact with the bowl, but too high and the locking mechanism will not work.

KnackeredMuchly · 29/10/2014 15:34

Buy from Lakeland. If at any time you're not satisfied, their customer service will step in.

trufflesnout · 29/10/2014 16:04

Aww. He looks like he's trying to eat the dough. Cute.

weeblueberry · 29/10/2014 16:21

Definitely not right... it looks as though it's not shutting into place properly when you close the top as Look said. When it's down and locked it shouldn't move like that - it might shuffle across the counter by a few cm but nothing like that!

divingoffthebalcony · 29/10/2014 16:52

If the arm is jumping up and down it means you are trying to knead more dough than the machine can cope with.

There's a weight limit - it's in the instructions but I can't remember offhand.

LapsedTwentysomething · 29/10/2014 17:24

At this point I would recommend the Kenwood Prospero! Not pretty, but 1/3 of the price and just as good as my DM's KitchenAid.

OraProNobis · 29/10/2014 17:47

Thank you all for help and suggestions. It's a standard 500g bread recipe - old one coped with this no problems. Thank you for the phone number - I'll get on to them tomorrow. Thank you all again
