to ask if you ever rode the Grand National ride at Blackpool?

I've just seen in the news that a man has been seriously injured on this ride, my first thought was obviously how awful for him and his family and hoping that he recovers quickly.

But I remember riding this when I was small. Tall enough to go on according to them. I slipped up out of my seat and my Dad caught me. My Dad's a gentle man, but I've never seen him so cross as he was with the ride operator. This was the 80's, he complained and left.

Reading the news comment section (first page) brought up stories similar to mine. We complained, but as far as I know it was never followed up or anything reviewed.

I cannot believe this ride is still going, even after a revamp.

Anyone else rode this ride and had similar? (I am sorry if this subject feels ghoulish given the news, but that day at Blackpool is one of my worst memories and this has got me thinking about it all)

Oh god, yes, from age about 8 onwards (I was quite tall as a child but still). Wild mouse was scarier, really rickety, at least they tore the funhouse, with those really scary death slides down.
If I am just over 40 and I remember rides being rickety and unsafe 33 yrs ago,......

I got tricked into going on it by now DH on our first weekend away together. I thought it was a carousel.
I screamed the whole way around much to DH amusement. I can see how someone could be injured on it.

I ve just comeback from Blackpool - last weekend. Took dd2 (aged 9) and dd1 (13) on The Steeplechase. Oh my word! Hanging on for dear life and am very pleased dd2 came on with me as opposed to sending them on it alone

I had exactly the same thing happen mid-90s when I was on the Grand National with my dad. The bar was nowhere near close enough to me to stop me flying out of my seat - I grabbed the bar and tried to keep myself in but it took my dad grabbing me and pulling me to him to keep me in the damn thing.

I also felt like I'd broken a rib on the Wild Mouse.

Steeplechase was something I (sensibly) saved for much later.

All 3 are terribly rickety from what I remember, and I went on them 20 years ago. Absolutely hated them, I almost fell out of all 3 and the Grand National kept jumping off the track.

The whole point of the grand National ride is that it "jumps" from th track like a horse. Wooden rollercoasters always feel more rickety as they move a bit which adds to the scare factor. Coaster enthusiasts from all over the world travel to ride the National.
