to ask how are women meant to pee in those little tubes

Especially inflexible pregnant women?I hate them,I can understand men being given just little tubes, but shouldn't they give women some sort of different shaped receptacle?Or at least an intermediary one like they do in hospital with the little foil dishes. My gp just gives me a tube and sends me off to the loo,am I really the only woman who finds these awkward?
Maybe I should have name changed for this....

I agree! I end up washing the tube then wiping it then wrapping tissue around it??

Buttercup27 · 28/10/2014 10:01

I was given a weird yellow thing by the hospital a bit like a she wee which was much easier as it had a big opening and a funnel to pour it into the silly little tube.

Babyleopard23 · 28/10/2014 10:01

There are new ones now that have a funnel! I could never do it properly but these are so easy being pregnant!

divingoffthebalcony · 28/10/2014 10:04

I get wee all over my hand every time!

InfinitySeven · 28/10/2014 10:04

Ask for for a cardboard funnel thing. They make it much easier.

PixieofCatan · 28/10/2014 10:06

Shewee. It's amazing! Though I usually get sent home to do urine tests Confused

jellybelly701 · 28/10/2014 10:11

I remember when I was 8months pregnant and was asked to provide a urine sample in one of those. I hadn't been able to see my vagina for weeks so was aiming blind. I think I only managed to get about three drops into the tube.

penelopicon · 28/10/2014 10:18

I had to do so many tests due to water infections when I was pregnant, I became a real pro even when I hadn't actually seen beyond my bump for weeks! Never got offered a funnel or shewee, though I'd invest in one if I were pregnant again, to save my hands/the toilet seat/ my jeans Blush

PassTheAnswers · 28/10/2014 10:21

The squat wide pots are available in some hospitals- so much easier than those tiny tubes. 6 months pregnant and can't see what I'm doing, fully expecting to get pee all over my hand again today!

liquidstatehasrisenagain · 28/10/2014 10:25

In hospital, I used a disposable cup from the water fountain and then tipped it in the sample tube. I still have a special plastic cup in my loo cupboard in memory of my weekly samples when pregnant really must chuck it out now

or is that too practical? Grin

StarlingMurmuration · 28/10/2014 10:27

My local Boots sell wider bore sample jars for about 60p - they said they'd had so many women asking about them that they'd decided to stock up. My old GP surgery handed out the wide bore ones too, at the end of every midwife appt so you could bring in a sample next time, but my current surgery just gives out the little ones or gives you a disposable plastic cup to take to the toilet (which is in reception/waiting area) so you have to carry a cup o' wee back to her office through the waiting room. Joy.

Thanks for starting this thread, OP. I have a midwife appt at 11.30 today and I'd forgotten to do a sample yet! You saved me from the wee walk, especially difficult at the moment as I'm in crutches due to SPD!

Shesparkles · 28/10/2014 10:30

I bought a cheap plastic kitchen jug when I was pregnant for this very thing-made life a lot easier

LadyLuck10 · 28/10/2014 10:32

I've never been given the tube. They always just give you a little plastic tub with a lid.

theposterformallyknownas · 28/10/2014 10:35

I'm not pregnant but have to do lots of samples, I just bought a funnel or use a wider plastic tub and pour it into the little bottle.
They sell about 10 in a pack in Poundland, I use these.

3pigsinblanketsandasausagerole · 28/10/2014 10:36

Tubs with lids here too

CoolCat2014 · 28/10/2014 10:37

It's a challenge at any time, and near impossible whilst pregnant! Worst when you go see a GP and they ask you to nip to the loos. Whilst I was pregnant I took to taking a sample with me to every appointment just in case. I could have cried with joy when I was given those foil things at the hospital, and a cardboard receptacle pouring device at the GPs by the kindly receptionist. Might be worth asking for one!

whatshallwedo · 28/10/2014 11:01

Yanbu, when I was pregnant I ended up doing them when I was in the shower as my bump was huge and I couldn't do it on the toilet. This doesn't help you though when you are at the surgery!

My (male) gp also gave me a wonderful demonstration on how I should be doing it because I wasn't always getting 'mid flow'. This involved an incredibly helpful hand swish action which would've been fine had I have been a bloke who could stand and see what he was doing. Not so helpful when you resemble a hippo Hmm

whatshallwedo · 28/10/2014 11:02

Actually, another way I tried was to sit on the toilet facing it as it gave me a bit more room!

stormtreader · 28/10/2014 11:05

I bought a poundstore plastic cookware funnel, take it with me in a resealable freezer bag. Use it for the sample, swish it out in the sink, back in the bag, gets washed when i get home, job done :)

SoonMeansNever · 28/10/2014 14:35

For home-produced wee bottles I bought a small plastic jug to wee into then pour into the bottle - made life much easier! Just washed it well after use.

For hospital/docs wees I wrapped loads of loo roll around the edge of the bottle and hoped for the best...
