Evening rate for qualified babysitter?

Hi I am just wondering what is the appropriate pay for my babysitter on Saturday evening?

She is a qualified NVQ Level 3 nursery carer, but she will essentially be coming over to watch tv as my LO will be asleep by the time she comes.

She gets paid roughly £8.50/hr for her normal day job and previously I've paid her a much higher hourly rate when I needed her to do some intense babysitting in the evening (ie entertaining and calming down a small overtired grouchy toddler in a noisy environment).

So just wondering what's appropriate here as it's a low intensity job but also is her Saturday evening?

Thanks ??

I think, from memory, we've paid an Ofsted Registered Nanny £10 an hour for the same thing, we've put him to bed, etc.

I would pay £10 p/h as she is still a qualified experienced professional giving up her Saturday evening. Hth

£8.50 would be fine -

We pay £9/h, babysitter is a nursery worker and this is the standard rate in the area. It has never occurred to me that you would pay a babysitter according to their qualifications, is this the done thing?

afussyphase · 28/10/2014 11:38

Yes, I think it's the done thing. Around here teenagers ask 5:50-6 per hour, sitters.co.uk (many of whom are formally qualified and all have some childcare background) are 7 per hour plus you pay a booking fee and membership to the site (not much though). Nursery staff, childminders and almost everyone on the childcare websites (no matter their qualifications) are 10 per hour. We choose according to what we need, eg nursery staff occasionally bring DD2 home for us and look after both DDs until one of us gets home, sometimes feed them (what we have prepared and left organised) etc. Teenagers we have for shorter periods, sleeping DC, or semi-regular 1-2 hours each wednesday for 6 weeks type of thing.
