Gobshite aka DH dropped the base of DS' s cot this evening after many weeks of promising to do it. It was at the highest and as DS is now a bit mobile wanted to ensure his safety by lowering it slightly.

DH came downstairs delighted with himself that he put the side the right way around this time so at least I can now lower it. However he lowered the base to it's lowest so it's practically floor level (junior bed). I said it wouldn't work (Baby freaked out at being so low down beside my side of the bed (dark and grim) and my back would get sore from bending down so low to pick DS up (have had a few slipped discs).

He said I should have said (I forgot it could go down so low). I said he could have asked before barging ahead. As things are done on a gradual basis when making adjustments to baby furniture, carseats etc I maintain he is a gobshite for making the cot suited to the size of a three year old (DS is 9mo). He's narky with me, but there you go! AIBU?

Surely its easier to just move it up a bit, rather than argue about it?

ArabellaTarantella · 27/10/2014 19:09

He's a man. You have to give specific instructions. You didn't seriously expect him to work out what height was best for your son and your back, did you? He doesn't have to use it so it doesn't affect him. Doh!

SunnaStrangeInTheNeighbourhood · 27/10/2014 19:09

YABU - sort it yourself.

Valsoldknickers · 27/10/2014 19:10

Oh no, he's upstairs doing it now, swearing like a trooper probably. No arguments just a quick spat!

I think the lowest setting is appropriate for a 9month old as they can (or will soon be able to) pull up to stand. The top setting is for newborn, should drop to halfway when they can sit, then to the bottom when they can stand.

So I think your dh is right but for the wrong reasons.

petalsandstars · 27/10/2014 19:11

The you'll probably want it that level in a few weeks once baby masters pulling up to stand. We moved it again within a month of dropping to the mid level.

hollie84 · 27/10/2014 19:12

YABU

When we lowered the cot base we just put it down lowest. If you wanted a specific height you should have specified or done it yourself.

Valsoldknickers · 27/10/2014 19:14

Sunna have tried but my arms aren't long enough to hold the two ends together!!! I never ask for anything to be done that I haven't tried myself. I am the ikea flatpack queen and really enjoy painting and decorating. I also am the only driver so I shouldn't expect this to be a big deal!

I have a nine month old and have it on the lowest level as she is able to pull herself up and could easily topple over.

doobledootch · 27/10/2014 19:14

We only ever had our cot on the lowest setting.

Tbh this sounds like one of those storm in a teacup not getting enough sleep type rows.

I've just lowered mine down to the bottom as 9m old DS has started pulling himself up. It is a bugger on the back but I was paranoid that he'd fall out.

Valsoldknickers · 27/10/2014 19:18

Thanks dooble think you have hit the nail on the head there especially as DS has woken at 5am yesterday and today.

Surely you could have said... "Thanks for doing it, but that low absolutely kills my back, could you just out it up a little please"

eltsihT · 27/10/2014 19:45

At 9mo my ds was walking so cot was on the Lowest level, if you have a drop side it's easy to drop the side and lift then out. Without hurting yourself so much?

HamAlive · 27/10/2014 19:49

You might as well leave it on the lowest one, you'll need it lowered again soon enough! Ours is on its lowest setting for DS2, who is 7m old not 3 years!

Valsoldknickers · 27/10/2014 19:54

Thanks everyone. All over with now. DS in bed going asleep. DH grand.

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 27/10/2014 20:08

Glad it's sorted. Ours doesnt have more than one level so has always been at the bottom!

Artandco · 27/10/2014 20:15

I would have thought Lowest also. Ds2 was standing by 9months, and climbing out by 11months! That's right 11months! We had to take the sides off

doobledootch · 27/10/2014 20:50

The clocks going back has a lot to answer for, glad it's sorted now Smile

daisychainmail · 27/10/2014 21:05

I had EXACTLY the same thing OP! The same situation, and the same fight. My child has survived and so has my marriage just about

There will be larger arguments than that ahead keep your powder dry Wink
