To feel relieved that we withdrew our offer?

Just breathed a huge sign of relief as we have withdrawn an offer we put in for 'our dream home', which on the 3rd viewing didn't measure up. We both had cold shivers as we very nearly did not view a 3rd time. We very nearly proceeded!

Have any of you regretted a little too late after having moved to your own 'dream home'?

That happened to us too Cheby. We've got a better house now.

I always think if its meant to be it will. Usually if something doesn't work out its usually for the best and something better awaits.

Thanks both. We are all living temporarily with family atm and it can feel a bit oppressive, so I think we've taken it a bit harder than we would have if we were still in our previous place. I hope we get a better house in the end too!
(Extra annoying thing is the husband of the couple was a senior policeman and he showed us round with 19mo DD in tow, I just thought he would have higher moral standards than to lead us a merry dance!)

Cheby that is really cuntish behaviour from those sellers. Hope karma gets them when they do sell.

Thank you MistyMistleto, right back at you. Of course you did the right thing, it would be dreadful to find out after completion that it's not the house for you. I have found the entire buying/selling process dreadful as our buyers have had us jump through so many hoops. All the very best for your continued search and I hope you soon find YOUR dream house. Ps no phone call yet, I am finding doughnuts are helping my stress levels. Good luck.

Cheby, that also happened to us - two years later we are glad because we found somewhere better; was crushing at at the time though, all the more so because we just never had a reason why!

We put an offer on a house some years ago, proceeded, got a survey - which came back with structural problems (builder hadn't used the correct sized timbers for the extension roof) We withdrew, vendor demanded to see the survey - we suggested he pay to see it (it had cost us £600) - he withdrew and sold later, to someone who hadn;t had a survey, I assume.

We got a lovely house.

Piccarcas - I hope the call comes soon ! I might join you in the doughnut fest :) xx

Captain it seems you had a lucky escape. On the note of surveys - we had a surveyor lined up ready for the nod from ourselves - when we casually mentioned to sellers on our 3rd visit we had they visibly blanched. They were under the impression as we are cash buyers we would not be instructing for one. That was also another niggle that came up during said visit. Follow your instincts is what I advise anyone.

Well it depends when you pulled out. Our buyer did so just before exchange because he'd changed his mind. We lost the house we'd planned to buy and £3,500 of fees for surveys and solicitors.

PiperIsOrangePumpkins · 27/10/2014 18:37

If the offer wasn't accepted yet then the owners haven't lost out on anything.

LittleBearPad · 27/10/2014 18:39

No but the shitty house buying process in this country doesn't always mean that's the case.

MistyMistletoe · 27/10/2014 19:48

Offers had been put in throughout the chain but none accepted - stale mate. We were not prepared to accept the offer on ours until we had assurance our offer would be accepted. The sellers were saying they had been advised to not accept our offer until we agreed sale of our home. We know once we had accepted the offer on our home the sellers would then push for more for theirs. The whole chain was fed by greed!
