Disney animal world subscription - should I use dd's pocket money?

I have 2 dd's 5 (almost 6) and 2.5 they got given the new Disney animal world magazine and have absolutely loved it. it also looks quite educational with a book each week and figures to play with. however it is 4.99 per week, I just cant justify that at the moment with bills and other expenses.

But they get £5 each per week off my dad would it be unreasonable to get them to pay half each per week for it? normally all money goes into savings accounts/jars.

If you can't afford it, and they love it, then ask them if they'd like to pay for it. Perhaps you could chip in a tiny bit towards it, as well (like a pound so that their weekly allowance/savings is still £3.)

It doesn't sound unreasonable to me. If it is pocket money, it's fine. If your dad gives it to be saved, you could always check with him that it's okay.

I will ask my eldest think my 2 year old will just look at me blankly!! my dad gives it to them to do with as they wish, primarily to save however if I tell him he will insist on paying for it when he really cant afford to - he is very much the type who shows love with things and money regardless if he has it or not!

As long as the 2yr old doesn't rip it up, I think it's a great idea.

waithorse · 26/10/2014 14:09

Good idea. 2 and 6 year olds don't need pocket money every week.

Does it require a subscription? Often these mags only appear in the shops for the first few issues then disappear, if so check the cancellation policy! I think my mum still holds a grudge about my QUEST subscription in 1992!

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 26/10/2014 14:50

yes requires subscription however it is through eaglemoss who are pretty good - my partner had a star trek one and was very easy to cancel no questions and no hassle after canceling :-)

my 2 year old is pretty good with books but is more interested in the figures!!

have spoken to eldest she is very excited about it as I had previously said we probably wouldn't be getting any more!

Sounds perfect then! I think it's great to teach about money and see some returns!

Check Cashback sites too - often you get money back on magazine subscriptions. You could then put that into their savings too. But YANBU, that's what pocket money is for ??
