To think you should clean your loo for guests coming over?

And guests you have never met before, too.

Went to a colleague's engagement party last night. Her house was being renovated so her friend offered to hold the party in her house. I have never met said friend before.

The rest of the house was lovely but the loo was filthy. Won't go into detail but it honestly looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months and the bathroom floor was sticky. Yuck.

This is coming from someone who is very laid back about housework. A bit of clutter/dust doesn't annoy me, but I always make sure my loo is clean when people come over.

Sorry if this has been done before Blush

But AIBU?

Fair enough saucy which singer/band/orchestra would you prefer? I'll have them booked in for you the next time you come round to mine and need a wee Grin

Perhaps that was her guest bathroom and the bathroom she uses is much cleaner?

Purplepoodle · 25/10/2014 21:06

I don't know I can clean my bathroom and within the hour my children can make it very grim. Imagine alcohol and few adults could do the same

YANBU. I'm no neat freak but dirty loos are just gross. Especially if you go round someone's house for dinner - then you've got to wonder if their food hygiene is as bad as their toilet hygiene - blergh.

One of my best friends always has a dirty loo with mess and clutter in the bath and dirty soap and hand towels... She also left a right mess in my bath after staying the night once - soap scum, hairs, shavings etc. - really annoying as I was heavily pregnant so didn't want to be busting my gut cleaning up after people!

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 25/10/2014 23:10

Of course you should. I clean my toilet after every time I use it. It takes less than 30 seconds.

CromerSutra · 26/10/2014 00:02

Yanbu. I totally agree and, like you, I am very laid back (untidy) myself but I wouldn't dream of not cleaning my loo regularly. I just cannot understand why people don't, it takes about a minute.

TheBooMonster · 26/10/2014 01:05

I for one would definitely deep clean my loo and surrounding room for something like that! I't a bit different if it's the weekly game group, having lived with them all I know that they're completely oblivious to whether my toilet is made of diamond and sparking or filthy and encrusted so I'm not going to go out of my way to clean it, but it's not like it's particularly dirty to start with given that it is regularly cleaned.

Though I tend to judge a persons cleanliness by the state of their bathroom / cloakroom, if they can't keep the room they clean themselves in clean how are they meant to be clean?

CatWitch · 26/10/2014 01:24

YANBU. I would rather poke my eyes with a fork than allow a guest to be faced with a dirty loo. I am rather manic about a clean kitchen and clean bathroom. I do judge other people on the state of their toilets.

My obsession with clean bathroom's is such that I actually have nightmares involving filthy toilets.

Troublesometrucker · 26/10/2014 01:30

YANBU

People should clean their loos!!!

I have a close family member who "forgets" to clean hers when guests come over. I can actually own up to dashing to the loo first thing when I visit, simply to clean it myself. Thankfully she does keep bleach and j cloths in the bathroom despite never using them.

Darkandstormynight · 26/10/2014 01:00

I know many people that house cleaning is just not on their priority list at all. They can't be arsed and say they would rather be doing something else. Well so would I but health eventually comes into play.

YANBU but some will think I'm just as crazy to keep a tidy house as I think they are by living in a sty. Either way you just never see eye to eye.

TheMaddHugger · 26/10/2014 02:20

Meh, why clean it. People are only going to piss and Shit in it .........

Ps, I just throw a blue block in mine and give it a quick scrub. Not a Problem

DiaDuit · 26/10/2014 10:45

They can't be arsed and say they would rather be doing something else

Yes i know people who say 'life's too short for cleaning' but really, it's not that short that you cant take 30 seconds out of your busy busy life sitting watching soaps to spray and wipe your loo.

MammaTJ · 26/10/2014 11:05

The rest of my house is pretty dire but my toilet is sparkling, more for my sake than for guests. Dirty toilets and sinks are not allowed here.

Mintyy · 26/10/2014 11:08

Yanbu. No excuses for a filthy loo.

My struggles with housework and tidiness are well documented on here and well-known to rl friends and family, but my loo is lovely at all times. And the rest of the bathroom and kitchen are clean too.

just the rest of the house that I can't seem to keep under control

Fingeronthebutton · 26/10/2014 16:03

I dated an environmental health officer many years ago. Whenever we went to a resturant he would look at the loos first. If they were clean, we stayed. If not, leave.
