AIBU to ask you what proportion of your household take home pay goes on your monthly mortgage?

OP posts:

25% of mine and DH's take home pay (excluding bonuses).

Mascaramascara1 · 25/10/2014 18:26

Just worked ours out and it's about 21% of our joint income.

Hopefully we'll be moving next year to a bigger house, which will pretty much double our mortgage though, do this time next year will probably be around 40%.

Just over 10%. We had a large deposit from inheritances. Childcare is more than twice as much.

Serenitysutton · 25/10/2014 20:11

30% of my take home, 13% of
Joint. The mortgage is in my name
Though so ultimately I need to be able to pay it comfortably alone.

Bragadocia · 25/10/2014 20:16

25% of take home of DH and I combined. Just started it a few weeks ago, but it's about the same as the rent we were paying.

snozzlemaid · 25/10/2014 20:29

10%

TrinnyandSatsuma · 25/10/2014 20:47

10% it's interest only, so we overpay on the capital, probably another 10%.

MozzchopsThirty · 25/10/2014 20:52

1/3 of my pay goes on mortgage
Single parent

It's doo-able

DraaaamaghAlpacaaaagh · 25/10/2014 20:55

Roughly 20%

motherhead · 25/10/2014 22:01

25% of joint take home pay. We also pay overpayments of about 12% of take home pay (from annual bonus). Not bad considering we're in London!

14.5% at the moment, including overpaying, would be 12.5% without overpayment. Our house is shared ownership so that figure includes the portion of rent we pay as well as the mortgage. Hoping to overpay more in the near future, get the mortgage clear so we can build more savings up.
