Just in the corner shop buying a paper etc and the guy in front of me had a few bits making him have his hands full, when he went to pay he had a £2 and a £1 Between his teeth and sort of spat them into his hand to hand them over to the cashier, wtf??! Then he put his change in his pocket and took his keys out, but in the process dropped a tenner, which he picked up and put in his mouth, so he could carry his purchases/keys. That's not right is it? I now feel the need to use hand sanitizer every time I handle money. The lad behind the counter said people do it all the time, cards too, he actually had to wipe spit off a debit card the other day. Properly put off my mid morning brew. Aibu to think this behaviour is disgusting?? But germs won't live o money for long will they?

I remember my newsagent saying that he hates it when people lick their fingers to separate a note, and then hand it to him...

NaiceNickname · 24/10/2014 09:55

Bleurgh. I'm not really germ phobic but it's things like this that makes me fully understand why bus drivers/cashiers etc wear blue latex gloves.

Thisghosttrainisreversing · 24/10/2014 10:07

Money has got to be the filthiest thing we touch regularly.

Think about where it goes and where it's been.

I work in a shop, many people put money in their mouth, sneeze/cough into their hand holding the money before handing it over, lick fingers to flick through newspapers/magazines that they then don't buy.

People are grim.

BuzzardBird · 24/10/2014 10:10

Especially as some people keep notes in their pants...bleurgh!

iwishiwasacat · 24/10/2014 10:10

YANBU!

Money is so disgusting and germy!

Stealthpolarbear · 24/10/2014 10:12

Urgh. Coins, keys, bins and toilet door handles are my biggest worrirs

ConferencePear · 24/10/2014 11:41

If the germs aren't enough to put you off, think of Brunel the engineer, he almost killed himself by pretending to swallow a half-sovreign and actually doing it. It took five very dodgy operations to get it out.

mrssnodge · 24/10/2014 12:15

I used to work in a large money processing centre, counted notes and coins all day long, I was always ill with all kinds of things, despite constant handwashing/sanitiser, money is filthy!!!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 24/10/2014 12:16

Meh. Its good for your immune system. Transferring money directly from mouth to shopkeepers hand not on though!

SpawnOfFrustration · 24/10/2014 12:19

God no, when you see someone scratching their bollocks in the queue at the shop, then getting their coins out, I don't want to touch it with my hands either.

gingee · 24/10/2014 12:20

Just talking about this at work, describing the incident this morning! (my life's not mega interesting lol). Apparently one colleagues dd got impetigo from money?? Is this possible??! And Mrssnodge what did you catch? Were you not given masks or anything??! I think there should be public service announcements about manky money!!

Gross!

whataloadofoldshite · 24/10/2014 12:24

It's the drug residue on notes that freaks me out. When I worked in a nightclub we were warned that we would probably have drug residue on our hands and to wash well during breaks and end of shift.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 24/10/2014 12:25

Keyboards and telephones are supposedly filthy too.

maras2 · 24/10/2014 12:48

When DH was a boy,his mum swore blind that you caught canker from putting < old > pennies in your mouth. No idea what canker is but it may be something that dogs get.Anyway it put him off sucking pennies for life. Grin

Mrsantithetic · 24/10/2014 12:52

After seeing a photo of a man with a 50p in his foreskin pretending to be a hammer head shark.

No. Never ever will money go in my mouth. I prefer not to touch coins at all if I don't need to. Confused

maras2 · 24/10/2014 13:15

OMFG.mrsantihectic Thank the lord that DH does not have a foreskin or I may have been tempted to get him to recreate that photo < if enough drink had been taken > Grin

Deliaskis · 24/10/2014 13:19

Having briefly done a temping job on a prison, and having had my eyes opened to the methods used to get money (and cigarettes, and drugs) into prisons, I do hate the thought of handling cash. At least with a card it's only ever been handled by you and the occasional shop/restaurant worker.

CaptainHammer · 24/10/2014 13:25

maras2 a canker is American for mouth ulcer I think!

LetticeKnollys · 24/10/2014 13:30

When I worked on the till at a DIY shop my hands would be all grey/brown at the end of a shift from handling coins! [thereisnoemoticonfordisgust]

avocadotoast · 24/10/2014 14:56

It is rank. I used to hate it when I worked in shops and people would hold a note in their mouth before giving me it. Ughhh.

nancy75 · 24/10/2014 15:01

When I worked in a shoe shop a woman paid for a new pair of shoes with 2 twenty pound note she had just pulled from her knickers!

To remove the money from her knickers she put one leg up on a chair, pulled up her skirt and had a good rummage around before producing the notes.

The woman really did look none too clean

I would NEVER put money on my mouth !!!

Ericaequites · 24/10/2014 16:22

Money is filthy. I'd not want to handle anything after it had been in someone's mouth.
