To walk out of my job because of this

I am a carer with an agency, I started the job about 9 months ago and have had nothing but problems with the agency regarding pay, hours, travel time, difficult clients etc. The agency mainly have zero hour contracts but I refused to sign one and agreed to a 16 hour guaranteed hours contract. Some months I have been paid correctly, some not ( I have all my pay slips) I have challenged this every month and have been fobbed off and stupidly I let it slide.
I finally snapped after being paid barely £300 a month when my contract is atleast £700. I went in to see my supervisor who informed me that my contract was void and I now have a zero hour contract....what the--!!!
I have made appointments to see my other supervisor and she has been nice but can't really help me, she has contacted the fiancé team and the main boss, this was last week and still no response, I went in yesterday and complained again and still no one got back to me or even explained it.
I have no signed any other contract so as far as I am aware, I do not have a contract with the agency. I was not aware my contract had been changed, I did not consent to it. AIBU to walk in today , dump my uniform on their desks and quit on the spot?

Shocking treatment of the people who are caring for our elderly/sick.

Have you got all the money you're owed?

Well done for standing up for yourself. It's a bloody shame it had to come to this though.

Your experience does not surprise me. Its truely shocking how care (cough) agencies get away with they crappy treapment of staff. I could write a book with examples.

All the care agencies I have dealt with go out of their way to avoid paying what they owe. Milage is disputed and never paid correctly or on time. Travelling time between clients is never allowded so you have 15 mins with a client, your next client could be 10 miles away yet no allowence is made for you to travel. Utter madness.

I have met some wonderful kind and loving care staff but all have left due to the crappy treatment and endless fight to be paid properly. Its a disgrace its still allowded to happen but it is. If they can avoid paying £1 they will try.

Ladies please don't ever work for a care agency or let your sons or daughters do so, it's a freaking nightmare from start to finish!

That's a bit harsh. I know of some really good ones. I worked for one that often paid me late. I ended up ringing them one morning to tell them I could not get to the shift I had been booked on because they hadn't paid me, so no money for transport.

I worked for another fab agency and have worked for others since that have been good.

I've run my own agency (specialist recruitment - not "care") and yes, it's true that care agencies in particular have an appalling reputation in the industry - naturally not all, but far too many

Strongly suggest you spread the word widely about them - obviously don't lie or defame, just tell the facts. It really is the only way ...

Blair I'm so pleased you've sorted this out and set yourself free. For your future reference if you are offered/given a change of contract and you don't sign it you 'acquiesce' and the contract becomes legal and binding.

Why was your contract void, out of interest?
