AIBU to ask to have my roots re-done the next day?

I'm not sure what to do. I'm a very polite person and hate making fuss, plus I live in small town where everyone knows everyone.

Paid £70 yesterday to get my highlights roots done, same place I always go to,

Came home and looked in mirror thinking 'hmm...they don't look any different' but figured I'd see if it looked better in the morning daylight.

They still look like roots this morning and like I have had them done.

AIBU to call salon and ask them to re-do, or is that more hassle than it's worth on terms of fuss/embarrassment? I really like the girl who did it :(

I'd definitely do this. I have gone back to the hairdressers one before when she cut the back of my hair wonky (easy to do as my hair sits differently depending on whether it's behind my ears or not)

I think you need to go back. You can always ask in an awkward British way, if you don't want to sound accusatory.

I have the same problem. When my hair was coloured last time the roots still looked bad, and like you, I was too nice to say anything. :(

I have an appointment next week with the same hairdresser and have texted her to ask if we can try something different with the roots as I wasn't too happy with how they looked last time.

Go back if not happy. Better a happy repeat customer than an unhappy ex customer..

AlbaGuBrath · 24/10/2014 10:44

I had this not long ago. Phoned went back and still wasn't happy. Not going back.

it doesn't have to be angry or confrontational. If you're a regular client and they are a good business they will want to keep you happy.

Just say you've always been happy before but, on this occasion, the colour hasn't 'taken' and can they please have another go.

I've done that this week. My cut was awful and I rang and asked to speak to the manager. The assistant manager cut it again on Wed, much better, but I'll never go back to that branch. Reinforces my decision to go to a branch 8 miles away where it's always good. They were fine tho', didn't make me feel bad about it at all.

I did once, regular hairdresser decided to do my roots with foils instead of cap. She then suggested I wear may parting a different way (just for a change) before leaving the salon.
Only when I got home and re-did my parting I saw that the colour didn't match the rest, it was a brashy yellow instead of light blonde and there was a visible line where the dye hadn't touched my roots.

Went back next day and she toned it down with a darker colour and to try and blend it in.
Got home and realised it was way too dark. Went back again next day and this time she did it properly with the cap and correct dye.

She didn't mind as she knew she had ballsed it up in the first place (hence the new parting) but I never went back after that and did it myself.

I would go back and discuss it. You sound lovely and not at all the type to throw a wobbly - I'm sure the hairdresser will understand and redo them.

I had a nightmare getting highlights done for my wedding. About 4 days beforehand, the stylist really screwed up and they came out green!! I was a bit horrified but also saw the funny side of it straight away. She was very apologetic, and I went back the next day and got it sorted out for free!

Leela5 · 24/10/2014 13:53

Thanks so much all of you for your advice! I've had another look in the light. Though they are definitely lighter than they were you can still definitely see that it's darker than the rest of my hair. She did seem to take less time than usual and I wondered whether the dye had been on long enough.

I'm going to see if it's still bothering me tonight, if so then I'll pop in and have a chat with the salon tomorrow. Grin

Good plan. If it's obvious to you then it should be obvious to them so they can't rely make a fuss or deny that there's a problem.
