house viewing

A couple turned up at my parents house for a viewing and got their 10 year old kid to video the viewing. I think this is out of order and have told them not to let any one do that. They didn't even ask permission!
AIBU or is this usual now? I don't want them to loose a potential sale but we don't know these people and they now have a video of poking around the house. I do realise there are photos on line, but these are not close ups of pocessions.

There's no way I'd allow this! photos are one thing but a video is a walk through of your house!

TheWholeOfTheSpook · 21/10/2014 14:22

DH videoed a house we were buying once but that was because we were moving abroad and he wanted to show our Mums! We did ask though.

polarpercy · 21/10/2014 14:23

God no! YANBU. I would hate it if this ever became the norm. Like you said there's a video of them wandering about.

SquinkiesRule · 21/10/2014 15:45

Video is a bit weird. Pictures are fine.
Oldest Ds went to view on the other day and took loads of pictures so he could ask his Dad about different things he's seen.

londonrach · 21/10/2014 15:53

Id be worried re breaking in if whole house re recorded. Very strange behaviour! Did you stop it happening at the time.

LurkingHusband · 21/10/2014 15:59

When I worked with estate agents (software systems), some were looking at providing a professional video service for exclusive clients. This was 10 years ago.

If you're looking for £6,000,000 for your pile of bricks, £1,000 for a promo video isn't a bit ask.

Viviennemary · 21/10/2014 16:02

I wouldn't be happy with this at all. In fact they shouldn't even be taking photographs because they have the estate agents blurb.

jetsetlil · 21/10/2014 16:02

I'm a viewing rep. It's becoming quite common for people to video or take pics as they go round

DealForTheKids · 21/10/2014 16:02

We did, for reasons Spook mentions (parents unable to come who needed to see - my dad is in a wheelchair but wanted his advice on some building stuff) but we also did ask.

Generally I think it's a bit unnecessary but it wouldn't hugely bother me.

DealForTheKids · 21/10/2014 16:04

Viviennemary re photos - I would always take photos, why on earth would I trust the wide angled/flattering lights of the EA? Plus anything that looks worrying can be revisited later.

When we were house hunting they all merged into one...

Viviennemary · 21/10/2014 16:25

I still think it's an intrusion. But appreciate things have moved on since we last house hunted. If somebody had requested taking a photo of something in particular I wouldn't have minded. But going round snap snap snap in every room I would have thought it was cheeky.

DealForTheKids · 21/10/2014 18:17

That's probably fair - having done a fair amount of time in rented I've lost track of what constitutes unreasonable when it comes to viewings!

idiuntno57 · 21/10/2014 18:19

This may not be a very popular viewpoint but I think that if you are making what is probably the biggest purchase of your lives then photos/videos are fine if they help you decide.

You should however ask

Notmeagain1 · 21/10/2014 18:51

We took photos, but only after the offer had been accepted and during the inspection. I think a video would be a little OTT, IMO. I would worry about them breaking in to take items from the video, however, Im not very trusting nowadays.

Nomama · 21/10/2014 18:56

As the current owner has absolutely no idea who you are and whether you are serious about buying or not I think it is a fucking cheek and would be furious if it happened to me.

If someone puts an offer in and comes back for another look, then OK. That makes more sense, I would know who they are, where they lives (via the EA). But the whole I've lost track, it's the most important purchase thing rings very hollow to me - it is my home and I don't know you! Use the EA website if you need a reminder.

DealForTheKids · 21/10/2014 19:18

Just to add to previous post, I wouldn't do it without the owners being there!

Purplepoodle · 21/10/2014 20:39

I took extra photos when doing house viewings as dh was away and would send them to him as he worked away and wouldn't be able to view. Wouldn't dream of taking a video though and always asked the house owners permission

Greenrug85 · 21/10/2014 21:16

If the viewer has permission, fine, but to just do it off their own back? Out of order. I would be worried about the footage assisting with breaking in,

blanklook · 22/10/2014 01:07

Ask the Estate Agent to give you the viewers' details and write to them telling them they do not have permission to broadcast that video, it could be all over Facebook for all you know.

Instruct the Estate Agent that they will need to do accompanied viewings from now on and it's strictly no photos and no videos.

A video with permission after completion is okay I think but definitely not before.
