I've just been sent an email from a company offering to improve my editing and proofing skills.

It starts off by saying "Thank you for attending one of my previous writing courses. It was a pleasure meeting you on the day."

But I've never been on one of their courses or indeed any writing courses. However I do know not to start marketing emails by making the potential customer think you're an idiot.

Just ignore.

Only emails I get are from Nigerian men who claim to have millions in the bank waiting for me

NorwaySpruce · 21/10/2014 10:55

I'd assume they emailed you by mistake, perhaps the message was meant for someone with a similar email address.

Or someone doing the email equivalent of giving a fake phone number Grin

LadyLuck10 · 21/10/2014 10:55

It's called junk mail/spam. Is this the first one you've ever received?

BaffledSomeMore · 21/10/2014 10:58

It's not a spam. It's a work thing.

The Nigerians don't tend to get through to me.

It might be a work thing, but it still sounds like spam.

Just a mass generalised email.

BaffledSomeMore · 21/10/2014 11:05

Yes I understand it's a mail sent to a list. I do realise that.

But starting it off by saying she's met people when plainly she hasn't and the fact it's a course on proofreading and editing just seems a teeny bit ironic.

Obviously just me then.

Yep it's ironic and quite funny but I think you've given it too much head space already.

ScarletFever · 21/10/2014 11:08

hahaha - i went on an Electronic Document Specialist course once - the certificates arrived, with names with wrong spellings, they posted the certificate with glass fronted frames in standard envelopes (no padding/protection) it was a shambles

They got one name so badly wrong She ended up with a mans name....

BaffledSomeMore · 21/10/2014 11:08

Probably Worra. Probably.
