May be sticking my head in the oven here...

I was reading on Facebook the sad news that Lynda Bellingham had lost her battle with cancer Sad and people had obviously read the article and posted their condolences Rip Linda it really winds me up when people can't get othe spelling right, especially when it's already been spelt correctly in the article.

So, AIBU?

My first name can be spelt several ways so I think it has made me more aware of the importance of getting people's names right. Lynda Bellingham has brought the Linda/Lynda confusion into the public consciousness, but before that the one that really bugged me was Ann/Anne. How many times have I seen people type "Princess Ann" - it's ANNE unless you mean the one in Roman Holiday! Or "Anne Widdecombe" who actually doesn't have an E. Oh and "Prince Phillip"! He's a pillar of the Establishment, he's not really going to spell it the non-traditional way!

DH's name is a slightly unusual spelling and people get it wrong all the time on Facebook, even when he's posted just above them. You'd think they'd notice it wasn't making a link.

I have a slightly unusual first name and it gets spelled all manner of weird ways. My surname is extremely common and is a word in everyday use and a man argues with me that the most commons way is to put an 'e' at then end so he would be doing so in his letter to me Confused ok but that's not my name.
