To be a bit annoyed by this?

I've just got my rota for the week commencing 26/10 (our week starts on a Sunday) for work.

I am a part time employee on a 12 hour contract, I fit in 4 hours at college a week and should do 8 hours on placement a week, but this isn't always possible due to work. My tutors have said I can log hours in half term/school holidays as my placement is still open (I'm studying childcare). I need 250 hours in placement by June to pass my course.

Without my knowledge, or any discussion with me, I've been rota'd in for NINE HOURS overtime the week commencing 26/10.

There have been a few weeks where I've only been able to fit in 6 hours on placement. Work know I'm studying and know about my placement requirements.

I'm going to calmly have a chat with the assistant manager tomorrow, but AIBU to be annoyed they've done this? No one else is doing any overtime that week!

That's half term week so if their staff have children off school they will be understaffed that week. I'm assuming you should be supernumary while you're training? May be a good idea to remind them of this as it looks as though they are using you to bump up the staff numbers.

Lady my job isn't in childcare, it's retail, placement is voluntary and part of college :)

In my retail job we're all quite young and AFAIK the only people with children are assistant manager and another senior member of staff.

Is there any way your manager could allow you extra time to do your placement hours another week?

Assuming that being rota'd in for overtime is in your contract, I'm not really understanding the problem, I'm afraid.

You work 12 hours, at college for 4, placement for 8 and do 9 hours of overtime. That still only adds up to 33 hours - less than most full-time workers do.

I obviously haven't understood the problem.

OK, my main issue with it is that every other time I've done overtime, it's been agreed in advance and I've been asked prior if I'm able to work it (I'm actually doing 6.5 hours extra this week, but it's only adding up to one more day and that's Saturday, the rest is just extending one shift by an hour).

So yeah, it's mainly the lack of prior discussion and the sheer volume of hours that I'm a bit baffled by, it's normally only ever been an extra shift I've been asked to do - this is almost double my hours.

I'll go in tomorrow and seek some clarification. In terms of college, there's always Christmas and Easter holidays but if they do similar again I could fail to qualify, depending on if I can get more hours banked in term time.
