to not want dh to call his daughters hussies

We walked past our daughters' school bus stop today and the girls, who are 13 and 11, were jokingly posing. Dh laughed and said "the girls stand at the bus stop like hussies". I was instantly dismayed at the use of the word, about which dh got annoyed because he feels it's just an antiquated word and not offensive. I disagree and find it inappropriate. Consulting online dictionaries hasn't helped because we can both find things to back up what we think. I have to add that I am not English so the finer nuances of meaning might be lost on me. So now it's over to Mumsnet - who is right?

Well having seen the amount of make-up (and the bloody awful way it is applied) on some of the School Girls that stand at bus-stops I wonder if they look in the mirror and say "This is how I want to present myself to The World".
Some of the 'look' is more Lap Dance than Science Lab,

(never thought to myself that they stand like hussies but thank you for implanting that word back into my brain Wink )

To me it's just a bit jokey. It's such an old fashioned word it's not offensive to me or most people. Of course the dictionary says it can be a bit offensive but dictionaries contain near prehistoric words so are not really relevant to the argument.

Hussy is sort of a jokey version of tart isn't it?

I don't like it, but can see he used it with no ill intent.
