To get annoyed with posters saying "what X said"

It means I have to scroll back up to find out what poster 'x' actually had to say. It seems lazy to bother to post and then post absolutely nothing!

Can you tell I'm too lazy to scroll back up to re-read what 'x' actually DID say?

Does anyone else not want to bother to backtrack to read that, or is it just me?

Like me Grin

BackforGood · 19/10/2014 00:46

When you read through the thread though, other people put things FAR more eloquently than me, so I just jump on their coat tails sometimes rather than waffling on trying to make the same point.

Would only do it if I'm posting shortly afterwards though, not from pages ago, then I'd copy and paste and say "this".

QueenTilly · 19/10/2014 01:16

On a computer, put the thread all on one page and then do Ctrl+F to find what X said.

DejaVuAllOverAgain · 19/10/2014 07:43

I used to say 'what Hec said', it appealed to my lazy streak Grin especially when I couldn't put it any better.

Has Hec namechanged? I haven't 'seen' her for ages but I did see a post the other day that made me wonder.

PickledInAJar · 19/10/2014 07:45

Ah, control and F? Never heard of that trick. Perhaps therein lies my problem because I use the app on my phone Shock

Who the Heck is Hec, and why is she such a legend?

Rude, funny, rebellious, all knowing and wise...?

YANBU. I find it annoying too if it's more than a couple of posts ago.

And it doesn't add anything to the argument.

MardyBra · 19/10/2014 07:49

I'd go for all knowing and wise from your list.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 19/10/2014 07:52

What chipping said

Andrewofgg · 19/10/2014 09:02

You can search for the screen-name of the poster being agreed with. Ctrl-F will do it.

When I first discovered this forum I thought What XXX said was very female - where my gender feels the need to say it again in different (and not necessarily better) words, yours (most of MN, that is) does not. Perhaps I am wrong about that, what does anyone else think?

Fenton · 19/10/2014 09:40

I'm not sure it's as much a male thing as a you thing Wink

Seriously you may have something there, but would it be rude of me to say the desire to repeat things over and over is a man thing? Probably.

fluffyraggies · 19/10/2014 09:44

Oh god yes OP i hate this too.

As chipping said (Wink) it's only 1 or 2 posts ago then ok, but if i cant see it quick i don't bother scrolling for it. Copy and paste the damn post if you thought it was so good; i haven't got all day to go searching for what he said/she said!

QueenTilly · 19/10/2014 10:33

Use the web-browser instead. There will probably be a Find on This Page option somewhere.

Trills · 19/10/2014 10:36

What Fenton said.

Not stupid sexist generalisations please.

That i of course the best way to agree with someone - copy and paste, use quote marks or formatting to distinguish it from the bit you are writing yourself, and include the name of the person who said it.

Especially on a fast-moving thread, what if while I was writing this Fenton posted again and said "always stir your tea counter-clockwise"? You wouldn't know which statement I was agreeing with.

moxon · 19/10/2014 10:36

What I am going to say later in this thread.

Flipflops7 · 19/10/2014 11:55

I do this a lot, it's if someone expresses your thoughts perfectly and you want to agree with them visibly so they don't feel like a lone voice. But of course you aren't going to rehash all their stuff as that would be a waste of everyone's time.

I get it myself so am in favour :)

Pagwatch · 19/10/2014 12:03

I agree with Pagwatch.

MardyBra · 19/10/2014 12:07

Wot Paggy said.
