To want to slam my brakes on!

astewart · 18/10/2014 15:54

Ex husband drove up behind me earlier in his girlfriends car, right up my arse! I slowed and tapped the brakes as I normally would a dick head driver, then it dawned on me he wouldn't even have insurance!
I should have slammed on should I!?

Why wouldn't he have insurance?

Only1scoop · 18/10/2014 15:57

Eh

OldLadyKnowsSomething · 18/10/2014 15:59

If you'd slammed on the brakes, and he hit you, he might have been injured and he'd have damaged his car. But he might have injured you too, and damaged your car; and, without insurance, you'd be out of pocket. Even if he was charged... So, you did the right thing by slowing down.

Just report him for having no insurance. Why risk an accident where people could get hurt

ilovepowerhoop · 18/10/2014 16:05

how do you know he has no insurance? He could have been added as a named driver

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/10/2014 16:10

Unless Ex is a banned driver?

astewart · 18/10/2014 16:13

When I left he'd had his license revoked for medical reasons, unknown if he has it back, he's just not the insurance type, doesn't drive it regular so won't see the point

Instead of breaking, you could've stopped at the next lot of lights, got out , threw the boot open and shouted.
"D'you want to look in my fecking boot. Eh? Do you? Take a look then"

Then get in and drive calmly away.

Disclaimer : I haven't done this but I've dreamed of it. I'm the lock my doors and look straight forward. Don't make eye contact and let them overtake me woosey type

Only1scoop · 18/10/2014 16:14

Blimey he doesn't drive any Dc around does he?

londonrach · 18/10/2014 16:15

Report him if uninsured but dont get involved.

BakerStreetSaxRift · 18/10/2014 16:25

He might have a "Driving other cars" extension on his own policy. Most do.

CrumpleHornedSnorkack · 18/10/2014 16:31

In this situation (minus the ex husband aspect) I have driven to my nearest police station having rung 101 to alert them to my arrival. Dickhead who was 2 inches off my bumper the whole way and clearly not local as he didn't notice we were pulling into the police station got 3 points on his license and a fine. Plus a right bollocking from the police there. Never been so relieved to live near the station in my life.

astewart · 18/10/2014 16:36

He doesn't have a policy of his own either, car was seized by baillifs, hence driving his girlfriends Smile
