To ask you to identify my sons rash?

Please can you help me..
Does anyone know what this rash could be? It came on all of a sudden apparently (he was getting changed for bed) and it's itchy.

He doesn't have a temperature and seems otherwise ok.

If anyone recognises it, I would be very grateful if you could let me know what it might be. I've got him up with me because I don't know whether to take him to the hospital.

Any chance you can call 111 and see if you can see an out of hours GP rather then consult a load of non-qualified internet strangers (I say this in the nicest possible way!Smile)

Purplepoodle · 17/10/2014 20:44

I'd say hives/allergic reaction. Is he itchy?

LittleprincessinGOLDrocks · 17/10/2014 20:45

Not sure what it could be, doesn't look like any rash I have seen before. I think I would be ringing for an out of hours GP appointment for tonight at this point, rather than a&e, as you say he is fine other than this rash. The fact it is covering him and has come on quickly means he does need seeing tonight rather than tomorrow, but not A&E urgent if you see what I mean?

Purplepoodle · 17/10/2014 20:45

Sorry didn't read. Have you tried piriton?

TippiShagpile · 17/10/2014 20:46

There's been an outbreak of impetigo at my dc's school. Could it be that?

PiperIsOrange · 17/10/2014 20:48

Is the nipple area normally that big

campingfilth · 17/10/2014 20:48

ringworm

fairgame · 17/10/2014 20:50

Looks like an allergy rash to me. Give some piriton and see OOH GP just to be sure as it's huge on his back!

PiperIsOrange · 17/10/2014 20:51

I would say it's a viral infection, but I'm not medically trained neither is most of MN.

Out of hours is the safest option

notjustamummythankyou · 17/10/2014 20:52

It looks a bit like a scarlet fever rash to me, but then you say he hasn't got a high temp, so that's a good sign.

Scarlet fever rash starts on neck and chest first, then spreads. It doesn't affect the face. Other symptoms include vomiting, fever, headache and sore throat.

Ruling those out and if its itchy, then possible allergy? I agree with t'others - perhaps call 111? And as a pp post, if you've got any antihistamines, it wouldn't harm to give him a dose.

Hope he's better soon!

youngheartsrunfree · 17/10/2014 20:52

Looks like urticaria. Allergic type skin reaction. Any obvious trigger eg new body wash? Animal contact? Will normally settle. Try piriton. Any lip/face/tongue swelling or breathing difficulties? If so, needs to be seen asap.

ithoughtofitfirst · 17/10/2014 20:52

Always on a friday evening. CHEERS RASH.

Yeah out of hours gp or a&e.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 17/10/2014 20:53

My dd gets allergy rashes that look like that. Has he has Piriton?

Pleasehelpplease · 17/10/2014 21:06

Yes I gave him Piriton.

OP posts:
PacificDogwood · 17/10/2014 21:08

May be urticaria.

If he is otherwise well, no fever etc, I'd let the night come and go and see what he/his skin in like in the morning.

ItsNotEasyBeingGreen · 17/10/2014 21:10

Get a pen and lightly dot around the rash. This will give you an indication as to whether the rash is getting worse or improving with piriton.

2minsofyourtime · 17/10/2014 21:11

My ds had a similar rash, sort of like a burn rather than rash, basically he had a bath and I put aveeno cream on him and his skin went all red, he was crying so I washed it off and he was fine. Used a veeno before and since. Not sure why he reacted that time

redautumnleaves · 17/10/2014 21:16

Looks like an urticarial rash - allergic. Does he have any other symptoms like swelling of his lips or tongue or itchy mouth or throat? Has the piriton helped?

Wowthishurtsalot · 17/10/2014 21:45

Looks raised is it? If so I'd say urticaria/hives

Permanentlyexhausted · 17/10/2014 21:51

It looks more like an allergic reaction (to something like washing powder or shower gel or deoderant) than a scarlet fever rash which i don't think is itchy. Or a viral rash.

Pleasehelpplease · 17/10/2014 21:52

Hi everyone,

Thank you so much for your replies...I'm so grateful for your help.
I called 111 and was instructed to go to the A&E but while I was waiting for my husband to come home, the rash began to very slowly fade.

The Piriton had kicked in thank god and it wasn't a serious thing. I cancelled my appointment at the hospital and DS has just gone to bed.

I spoke to a doctor over the phone and he said to just let him sleep and give another dose of Piriton later on.

Thank you for your help. I knew I could rely on your wisdom.

Thanks

Looks like allergy rash to me - my son's had something a few times like this and it was also massive. Also it moved around his body - started with small white blister and then over a few hours got red, slightly raised and hot - and massive. Then would shrink over a few hours whilst another one started somewhere else.

We were told Piriton and if it happens again (it did) allergy testing needed.

LuluJakey1 · 17/10/2014 23:09

It looks more like a contact rash, as if he has had something in contact with those areas of skin that he has reacted to.
