to people asking how the cat gets the milk - I mean if I put milk in a milk pourer (why is my mind blanking on what thats really called) and set it on the table in the living room beside the teapot she'll get to it. she doesn't open milk bottles or get in the fridge! does go in kitchen though, that's where all the cat bowls are

everyone saying you can keep cat off the table obviously doesn't have a cat! I put her off the table all the time but she jumps right back up again

BTW i'm the only one usually drinking the tea. DP has the occasioal cup. And I LOVE the taste of flask tea thats been sitting a few hours, also the best cup is from the end of the pot when its been sitting a while with the milk in it. clearly i'm a heathen!!

jug

Selvedge · 18/10/2014 00:00

Milk jug?

Selvedge · 18/10/2014 00:03

Tea to me is horrible. Your tea is worse. YABU

Coughle · 18/10/2014 00:03

Well if you're the only one drinking it then make it how you like it!

diddl · 18/10/2014 08:43

Milk jug with a lid?

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 18/10/2014 08:54

YABU. Tea needs to be made and left to stand in boiling water. The milk will cool it down and make crap tea. People need to also be able to use their preferred amount of milk.

Of course people still use tea pots, why wouldn't they Confused. Tea made in mugs is just not the same and you also need extra for a second cup. We make several pots of tea a day in our house and I even have my own small 2 cup tea pot that I use when DP is working away.

PenelopeGarciasCrazyHair · 18/10/2014 09:42

Is your only available milk storage solution a saucer on the floor by the back door? Or could you keep the lid on the milk bottle and the cat out of the fridge? Grin

If you're the only one drinking it then who cares?!

If your dp is also drinking it then it probably does taste a bit weird. I can't bear it when other people make me tea as they always put too much milk in it and never leave it to brew long enough. It actually makes me gag drinking most peoples tea, so if your dp is anything like me, yabu.

Wrong. I have a friend with two cats that she has trained from kittens. They don't jump up from the kitchen floor, or onto any other furniture in the house. I'm very happy to eat or drink anything at her house because I know it hasn't been contaminated by the cats.
She hasn't trained her DH though, he is a filthy bastard.

PigletJohn · 18/10/2014 10:25

Post-it notes, on the table or worktop, sticky side up, will deter a cat who jumps up.

PenelopePitstops · 18/10/2014 10:28

Eww to cat on table and surfaces. You can train them not to.

I once refused to eat food at a friends house where she allowed her cat on kitchen surfaces. Totally gross.

WerewolfBarMitzvah · 18/10/2014 12:12

Ok, well surely if you just bring the milk as you are about to use it, someone can be there to stop the cat from jumping up.

Actually, since it's just for you, just put it in the pot if you want!

Sallying I did laugh at your post - tell us more about the grotbag husband!

Sallyingforth · 18/10/2014 13:05

The grotbag husband - well he is just generally dirty, unshaven, comes in from the garage covered in oil and doesn't wash, leaves mud on the carpet. An ideal husband, not :(

WerewolfBarMitzvah · 18/10/2014 13:33

Yum. Does he drink from the milk jug too?!Grin

Sallyingforth · 18/10/2014 14:07

They don't use a jug. Friend pours straight from the carton. So do I - reckon the milk stays cleaner that way.
I don't think he drinks milk, or tea either. Beer at all times.

She's lovely. I have no idea how she tolerates him. Must be that L thing.

taxi4ballet · 18/10/2014 23:35

I have been known to lose the teabags, and (after a long search) find them in the fridge...

And I have just realised that we keep the cat food in the cupboard next to the coffee.

sashh · 19/10/2014 08:20

I have owned cats most of my life, I have 10 years experience fostering cats. I would have agreed with this until I acquired 'Her Mistyness'.

Some cats cannot be trained. I now keep the kitchen door permanently closed.

FrancesNiadova · 19/10/2014 08:21

YABU.
Nuff saidWink

Surfsup1 · 19/10/2014 09:38

If it's just for you, then go for your life! But if it IS just for you, why are you decanting the milk?

WitchWay · 19/10/2014 09:53

My cats don't jump onto the kitchen surfaces because they're not allowed.

This only applies while I am supervising them, however. If I'm not in the room I know they jump up footprints so they are kept out if I'm not in there.

mumeeee · 19/10/2014 10:24

YABU milk in the teapot with the tea is horrible and not prooer tea. We have had cats and you can train them not to jump on the table.
