Moved house and gp earlier on in the year and because if this ds missed his 1 year check up and MMR. Been chasing up check up with HV for months to only be told by gp that he's too old for it now (16 months) so not to bother Hmm...
he's waiting on allergy tests as he has a cmp allergy and a possible reaction to egg so gp won't give him MMR until he knows if he has an egg allergy so he's behind on his imms which I don't like..
I then come across this on NHS websiteMy child is allergic to eggs.

Can she have the MMR vaccination?

Yes, the MMR vaccine can be safely given to children who have a severe allergy to egg. This is because MMR vaccine is grown on chick cells, not the egg white or yolk. If you have any concerns, though, talk to your health visitor, practice nurse or doctor..
wtf?

YANBU, both bits of advice are wrong though, in fairness, the advice about egg allergy has changed relatively recently - it did used to be thought that there was a risk of reaction in children with egg allergy, so they used to be advised to have their MMR in a hospital, just in case, but the guidance has changed. Your DS can and should have the MMR from your GP surgery ASAP.

If your GP queries this, ask him/her to check the Green Book - the vaccines "bible".

Thank you anyoneforturps for clearing that up. I think another visit to the gp is in order.

Green Book chapter on measles here - scroll down for the info on vaccines.

Thank you, that's brilliant, would I be completely unreasonable to show that to my gp Grin

I might have a printout in my bag as back up if s/he doesn't want to back down Wink

As a GP myself, I have to say it is simply impossible to keep up with all advice on everything as general practice basically covers every single medical condition known to woman. So sometimes you do find that you've given advice in good faith, only to find that the guidance has changed. You just have to take it on the chin and have a very low threshold for double-checking Smile.

Haha thanks Wink yeah I understand, just really glad he will be able to have it done, has been playing on my mind about how long it seems to be taking for allergy test date to come through and ds not being up to date with imms. Really appappreciate the advice.
