To want my bum back

So I had a baby. Perfectly expecting to go all saggy round the middle, boobs to droop with constant bf, stretch marks top to toe. I was OK with all of this.

I just tried on some pre pregnancy trousers, knowing I'd lost a bit of weight, to see if they were still wearable 5 months post birth. Check in the mirror. Hmm, not quite sitting right about the backside. Oh well. Take them off again, in front of the mirror.

Holy shitting hell. My bum has gone. The remainder of it is smeared down the back of my legs. I had been finding sitting on the floor a bit uncomfy. A bit bony. I thought it was just tailbone reshuffling due to pregnancy, but now I see there is absolutely no cushioning there whatsoever.

What the hell happened? I actually feel a bit shocked. I had a cs too. I didn't know this could happen!

AIBU to want my bum back? Do I just have to accept that this is how it is now, along with all the other imperfections, part of being a mum?

Trivial, I know, I don't consider myself to be at all vain or body conscious normally, but I am genuinely a bit shocked and upset.

Ahhh I'd heard of The Bridge as a thing (it's part of the stretches my physio gave me to help rebuild my core post-diastasis recti (sp?)) but then it was called a butt bridge upthread so I wondered whether there was something else to do.

If I'm doing that stretch anyway and my bum is still flat there's no hope is there #firstworldproblem

Mine was sliding away down my legs, Yoga dragged that beggar back where it belongs and made it look a whole lot better. Took nearly a year of weekly class though, but defiantly worth having my bum back.

My arse disappeared way before DS was born. I had been having a really rough time and lost quite a bit of weight, as a result the bottom half of my arse has completely disappeared or as you excellently put it 'smeared down the back of my legs'

I have no advice for you. I'm still arseless myself. I might try some of these suggestions though.

Bettercallsaul1 · 15/10/2014 23:15

I'd be happy to send you ladies some of mine. Plenty to go round.

Squats damn well will work, if I'm not much mistaken! For max effect, they have to be weighted squats, though.

Throw 30 kg on your shoulders and do Body Pump 3x per week, religiously, and you will have a high, round bum.

CornChips · 15/10/2014 23:26

Oh. I did not realise this was meant to be a bad thing. I am was delighted that my bum got alot smaller.

everything else on the other hand....

Alisvolatpropiis · 15/10/2014 23:43

Squats and lunges are what you need.

KoalaDownUnder · 16/10/2014 00:56

I don't think 'smaller' is a bad thing - just 'flatter and saggier'.

"Throw 30 kg on your shoulders and do Body Pump 3x per week, religiously, and you will have a high, round bum."

Throw 30 kg on your shoulders and attempt Body Pump even once and you will end up in traction.

I actually don't believe it's possible do a whole squat track with that weight and still keep good form unless you are already very strong and have been doing the class for a long time. Most people start with between 10 - 15 kg, which is plenty at first.

Aherdofmims · 16/10/2014 08:58

Yanbu. Tbh my mum has been feeling a bit uncomfortable and bony post ds (7 months). Am going to have a look for it half way down my legs this eve!

KoalaDownUnder · 16/10/2014 09:51

FindoGask, that is the weight I've been using (for squats only!) for months now. I have been going 3x per week for over 2 years, but I do have good form or I'd really injure myself. Yes, fair point - you do have to build up to it! That said, my bum didn't start changing much until I'd worked up to about 20 kg.

ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 16/10/2014 10:15

It's your core strength OP. It's gone. Do Yoga.

NearTheEdge · 16/10/2014 19:23
