Hi has anyone else had the unfortunate experience of dealing with this company? yes its another free trial scam and yes I could kick myself for falling for it,I have been told very politely by my debit card company that I will not get a refund as I clicked the T&Cs in other words tough luck, any advise would be gratefully received

Having browsed the front page of their website, I'd consider reporting them to trading standards, because it is possibly the largest amount of bollocks I have ever read. I mean, utterly made up nonsense.

Sympathy for being scammed, but did you not research the company and the 'technology' first? I am being a little harsh because I don't want anyone else to buy this shit.

BoreOfWhabylon · 14/10/2014 21:06

Does this help?

Looks like you are not alone, OP.

wantstolickwilliamgraham · 14/10/2014 21:07

I think you could check the moneysavingexpert website and see if there's anything on there?

Stem cells outside the body will do fuck all. Advertisers throw around words like rejuvenate, stem cells and pentapeptides and it's all just BS.

grocklebox · 14/10/2014 21:54

Well yes its a scam of sorts but that couldn't be more obvious from the website, to be fair.
The only advice available is to be more careful in future, there is nothing you can do now.

Minerves · 15/10/2014 00:31

Total scam!!!!

FYI. They say it's apple stem cells in it. not only are stem cells useless outside the body like wants says but they wouldn't even survive in a product like this they're v sensitive AND apple stem cells even inside the body would be useless to a human.

ProudAS · 15/10/2014 06:48

I just clicked on their site to see what it was about and got a warning when I tried to leave. Dodgy written all over it.

poppyday63 · 15/10/2014 11:20

Well at first I didn't think it was obvious at all (me being nieve maybe) trust me no one could make me feel more foolish than I already do, looking at the web site now I can see its all clearly a scam, I do now know this type of scam has been around for a long time in different forms ie collagenta, dead sea beauty kits, diet pills, lift and glow and so on and so on. I just wanted to know if anyone else had the same problems or have had any luck with a refund or chargeback from the bank,

I see this is an old thread, but in case anyone stumbles across it I will add my comments. I too was caught out by this scam, because that's what it is. I would absolutely disagree that it is an obvious scam, I signed up for my 'free samples' through the Women's Freebies website and you don't actually come across the main Stemologica website before you've unwittingly signed up. The point of the Womens Freebie website is putting people in touch with free samples, and cosmetics and skincare companies often offer free samples or trial packs in a perfectly genuine way. So I didn't think it at all suspicious to send away for trial samples just paying the postage, it did not see too good to be true or anything like that. I had never heard of this type of scam before, and had no idea about this Continuous Payment Authority that these sort of companies set up when they get your card details. The t+c's are not shown before you put your card details in, they are not sent with the products, and what you have signed up to is not emailed to you. I got a rambling email about skincare which mentioned a secure message waiting in my account. As I had not set up an account with Stemologica I didn't look for this. In fact they set up the account on my behalf. Anyway, in my case the bank wouldn't refund although I believe some banks do so it is probably worth fighting a bit if you have the energy. The bank will block any further payments though, so make sure you get in touch with them straight away that you realise what's happened. The payments are linked to your bank account not your debit card, so even if you cancel that card the money can still be taken from your account, so you need to get the fraud dept of your bank to block the payments. Stemologica first of all said it was my own fault, but when I got a bit ruder they offered to refund £80 provided I agreed not to get my bank to try and recover the money. This makes my think that the bank could get the money back if they tried. I've also contacted Trading Standards via Citizens Advice but not got any response yet. Incidently, Women's Freebies denied having this stuff on their website and said it must have been a google pop up ad.
With regard to the stem cells stuff being rubbish, maybe. They are not technically stem cells, but plant callous cells produced as a wound response. And they do contain high levels of various phytochemicals, whether these confer skin benefits or not I don't know, but no more or less likely to have some effect than a thousand other plant ingredients sold in skin care products.
After all the stress I didn't at all want these face creams but having spent so much on them I'm using them anyway. They are fairly pleasant, but in no way amazing, they have not improved my skin in any way compared to my usual skincare and are definitely not worth the very high price. The rave reviews online I'm sure are fake, this company deals in very dishonest ways under various names in many countries. A company with genuinely great products does not have to resort to financial trickery to get people to buy their stuff.

MSE has a long running thread giving help and advice for this sort of thing - I think it's in the shopping and freebies forum.

ConsumerChampion · 18/09/2015 23:03

I have been successful in obtaining a refund from this company recently and i might be able to help. Visit the Facebook page ‘Don’t get conned by stemologica’ and join the group. We are planning to negotiate a refund with Stemologica and the more people that join the stronger the voice. I will represent all that join free of charge but will need some details if you are interested. Find me on Facebook, my name is Sue Walters and my profile pic is my consumer champion logo of 3 men on a podium. Also email me on [email protected].

cremeeggboycotter · 18/09/2015 23:20

Have you tried emailing Watchdog to inform them about the scam? It might be worth giving them a heads-up especially if they are piggybacking on other well-used groups.
