To think that the second it becomes a bit cold or wet offices and trains should not whack the heating on full?

Urgh.

Looked out the window this morning and put a rain jacket and ankle boots over work clothes - rain appropriate. Get on train and immediately take off coat because heating is on absolute full. Everyone having got on the train in their wet coats and umbrellas creating a lovely steamy, muggy atmosphere and of course, all the windows are closed.

Get to work in an office which has no natural ventilation - no windows that open but in a massive, open plan office only one temperature throughout which is controlled centrally. Same situation as train - heating on high, everyone with damp coats and umbrellas creating more of that same stale, muggy feeling.

Obviously part of the problem is not having a central cloakroom to put things to dry... But that aside, AIBU to think that trains and central office can just turn down the heating a bit, and that people could open a few windows to get some fresh air?

I have come home with a headache and a feeling of slow cooking in my own skin today. Not happy!

YANBU. My office and lecture theatres today smelled overpoweringly of 'eau de overheated, wet Fresher'.

BuggersMuddle · 13/10/2014 20:03

For short / local transport YANBU.

If you're taking shorter journey (say 20 mins) on a long distance train, then I think the temperature has to be comfortable for those travelling on longer journeys and who may want to remove wet overcoats etc.

I've never yet worked in an office building that had properly sorted out heating / aircon. Muggy / random micro-climates (meeting room X needs a snow suit, meeting room Y is more on the tropical side). I go for layers and try to stick my head outside at least once a day.

My new office actually have a drying area. I was Shock at this luxury, particularly as a cyclist who doesn't want my sweaty / damp stuff mouldering away around my desk any more than my colleagues do Grin

YANBU. It's crazy the levels of heating in shops/on public transport at the moment and its only October Confused.

I had to come out of Boots earlier today, the heating was just completely overpowering and I felt physically sick.

OUr heating at work is broken. Open plan office was freezing. Was mainlining tea all day to keep my hands warm!

DuchessofBuffonia · 13/10/2014 20:22

I'm fence-sitting on this one. I don't like mugginess and much prefer fresh air. However, I was soaked through today and warm damp was far more preferable to breezy damp.

The first thing my sixth formers said when they came in was "Please tell me the heaters are on!" And proceeded to pile their shoes and socks onto them. Again, I prefer opening windows etc., but the rain was lashing through the gaps and my students were able to go to their next lesson with dry feet.

Pastamancer · 13/10/2014 20:22

They won't put the heating on yet in work, we were all freezing today :(

DurhamDurham · 13/10/2014 20:23

I agree, our office was like an oven today. It was ok all through the summer but now that it's Autumn it has suddenly become unbearable. One woman in the office is always moaning about being cold and so the heating goes on her her. So the rest of us slowly cook at our desks.

PunkrockerGirl · 13/10/2014 20:34

That's what pisses me off, Durham. The wishes of those who moan they are cold always take preference over those who hate overbearing levels of heating. Put another jumper on ffs.

QueenBean · 13/10/2014 20:43

Yes Durham and Punk, that happens at my office too, there's even someone who brings in a fan heater - she could easily put on a jumper whereas I only wear 3 items of clothing, bra, knickers and dress so can't very well take anything off!

YABU. Us coldies have to put up with fans and air con all spring/summer but the thought of knowing the heating will soon be on full whack keeps us going!
