To wish the 6.30am stop of the recycling/bin men wasn't a street where the road is 2 feet from everyone's bedrooms?

Ultimately I do think I'm being unreasonable...sort of. It's pretty much just a rant because I'm cranky and tired

Our street is clearly the first one on the route of the binmen/recycling guys. They're there at 6.30 on the dot every single Monday morning, van pulled up literally 2 feet from our bed, (there's our tenement houses then 2 feet of pavement then the road) with the noisiness and flashing amber lights that accompanies the vehicle. Every. Single. Monday.

All our neighbours are in the same boat because the front room is generally designated the main bedroom in our houses.

WIBU to right to them and gently suggest that if they have to start at that time of the morning they might want to pick a street where there are driveways that at least put some distance between yourself and the rude awakening? Or does someone have a suggestion as to how I can sleep through the racket?

YEEEEEES!

*I can top this!!

I live next to where the trucks 'live'. Between 6 and 7 o clock in the morning you can hear about 20 of them 'warning! Vehicle reversing!' followed by the long winded Welsh translation.

Rubbish.*

Bloody hell yes you do definitely win!! Grin

?? does it smell having so many trucks in one place

ithoughtofitfirst · 13/10/2014 17:22

Sometimes it STINKS. Luckily i live by the sea though so everything outdoors mainly smells of sea.

I am the lightest sleeper in the universe, my bedroom overlooks the main road, but I must say my binmen are so quiet, I never hear them.

The actual binbag collection. the recylcling men come later and they have the loud lorries and flashing lights, but kudos to the actual refuse collectors, they really are quiet.

6.30 sounds a reasonable time. But I get up at 6am anyway, and kids have to be woken at 6.30 for school.

Out in your case, I would contact the council to request a re route of the round to avoid a clash with school drop off.
I did this because there was a problem with getting pushchairs around the bags gathered into heaps in the pavement ready for pick up.
They were very helpful, and did alter the route.

Do you work nights OP? Because 6.30am is not early to be getting up for people who work in the day!

Beth2511 · 15/10/2014 17:12

floggingmolly, chances are they aren't allowed to do this.

I know where I used to work (very busy bar) they weren't allowed to empty bottles into the recycling bins between 10pm and 9am, they had to sit inside the building until 9am. It was the same for all business in the area and deliveries could not be made before 8am.

So it would be worth checking if they are actually breaching council rules doing so!
