To think this child should have been kept at home

So yesterday me, dh and our dc went out for the afternoon with a couple of others and their dc.

We were watching our dc playing on a park when one dad said to us "Oh he really doesn't look well does he?" indicating his son.

His son really didn't look well, was very pale and looked tired. We asked what was the matter (thinking maybe he just hadn't slept well) and the dad replied "Oh he's had horrible diarrhoea....was asleep for most of the morning. I've had to put a nappy on him to bring him out"

I didn't say much but my face was a bit Shock. AIBU to think that this boy should have been kept at home a) for his own comfort and b) to avoid spreading whatever bug he's got to other my children. I know we were outside but still...

Also putting him in a nappy? That's minging right? Or is this a thing people do that i'm unaware of?

For info the boy in question is 4.5yo.

It is very inconsiderate. It seems hardly anybody gives a fig about others being infected these days.

Poor boy. If my DS is poorly but wants some fresh air and distraction, we go and play in the back garden for a bit. I wouldn't dream of taking a child with diarrhoea to the park.

Poor kid - so he's very unwell and now has to sit in a filthy nappy for the afternoon?! Why on earth did his Dad think it was so important to bring him out?

BlueberryWafer · 13/10/2014 11:21

Yanbu, the child should have bee kept at home!

nethunsreject · 13/10/2014 11:21

Poor kid. Not fair on other people either. I used to have a friend like that. Put her own need to get out before her kid's need to be home resting.

Contraryish · 13/10/2014 11:22

That's grim. The poor boy.

WanderingTrolley1 · 13/10/2014 11:23

Yanbu.

That's very inconsiderate and the poor kid must've felt awful and, out in the cold, too!!

I was at playgroup last week. There was a LO - maybe 12 months old crying, snotting, coughing, obviously unwell. It took for the leader to say to mum: "she's really not well, is she?", before mum finally decides she'd "best go, then". This was about an hour into a 90 min session!

I think nethunsreject has it. I don't think the dad wanted to be stuck at home all day. Boy's sister was there too (though she wasn't poorly) so i don't know if the dad felt bad keeping her at home too. Either way though it's not on.

Glad i'm not alone in thinking the nappy thing is disgusting. I was beginning to doubt myself.
