so last night I was on a rare night out with the girls. i got home to find our fridge door wide open.
When I challenged him he said so thats what ds3 did when he came down. He is 26 months fgs.
Wibu to suggest his level of supervision was less than perfect. (ds3) has history for leaving door open.
know it is trivial but it could have been worse.

Less than perfect? That would be most people on most days, surely? I'm less than perfect on every single moment of every single day.

Azquilith · 12/10/2014 20:11

I came home once to find my DP had left the kitchen tap on with the plug in. He came home another time to find a full bottle of wine smashed on the floor. We both laughed.

Your 26 month old was wandering the house unsupervised? Was his dad upstairs or down?

gentlehoney · 12/10/2014 20:12

It is only a fridge door.

JamaicanMeCrazy · 12/10/2014 20:13

I'd be less than happy that a small child was left to go in the fridge on their own Hmm

Yanbu

3nonblondeboys80 · 12/10/2014 20:13

dad was upstairs!

OP posts:
3pigsinblanketsandasausagerole · 12/10/2014 20:14

Point is he didn't know what he had been doing

3pigsinblanketsandasausagerole · 12/10/2014 20:15

How safe is everything in your kitchen? Could he have access any cleaning products? Knives?
How safe is he even coming down the stairs?

I would not be.happy

3nonblondeboys80 · 12/10/2014 20:16

exactly 3pigs.

OP posts:
3nonblondeboys80 · 12/10/2014 20:17

not sure how he got down tbh. We still have stairgates

OP posts:
3pigsinblanketsandasausagerole · 12/10/2014 20:18

And what has your dp said?

WorraLiberty · 12/10/2014 20:24

How can a 26 month old have history for leaving the fridge door open?

Why is he even allowed to open it?

3nonblondeboys80 · 12/10/2014 20:24

was just very matter of fact. said something like o so thats what he was doing. Didn't apologise on anything. Didn't want to say much more in front of other dc. So canvassing opinion before conversation.

OP posts:
3nonblondeboys80 · 12/10/2014 20:26

dh was suppossed to fit a lock but it went wrong. maybe need to put stairgate on kitchen door. Fridge door opens way too easy.

OP posts:
3pigsinblanketsandasausagerole · 12/10/2014 20:27

I don't know why your dp doesn't realise your ds is too young to be left to his own devices like that

3nonblondeboys80 · 12/10/2014 20:28

when I am around he only does it when I am say cooking but I stop him straight away and try to distract say no etc. dh is more blase.

OP posts:
3nonblondeboys80 · 12/10/2014 20:29

sure he was more careful with older boys.

OP posts:
Gileswithachainsaw · 12/10/2014 20:29

What time did you get in?

You do know that he could have gone down well after bed time?

Is dp not allowed to pee in case the toddler opens the fridge?

Could have been either one of you there ffs.

Optimist1 · 12/10/2014 20:30

Someone left the fridge door open - a minor irritation, I agree, but my money is on your DH, not your DS!

Gileswithachainsaw · 12/10/2014 20:31

dh was suppossed to fit a lock but it went wrong. maybe need to put stairgate on kitchen door. Fridge door opens way too easy

And what's stopping you doing these things. You can presumably go get them. Yourself

3nonblondeboys80 · 12/10/2014 20:50

sadly I am not very practical and the gap is so small that dh was unable to fit lock so I am unlikely to be able to do it either.
Well he has now apologised. Ds3 was up quite late as wouldn't settle. I normally do bedtime. Dh apparent was upstairs and left ds playing on the stairs!
Ds clearly went into kitchen, open fridge and put tv back on. Dh came, down, switched off tv and carried him up to bed.

I got up one Sunday morning to find a 13mo and a 25mo had quietly got themselves up, snuck down stairs, the 25mo had pulled a chair, opened the fridge, the 13mo sat and waited for food (yogurt) to be thrown down. The kitchen was covered in eggs, milk, yogurt, everything really.

We both slept through their devious 5am manoeuvres up/over/through stair gate and fridge lock.

Get over it. It's a story to tell in years gone by.

*disclaimer - hide the matches, bleach, paracetamol, wine, beer - that would be a problem

3nonblondeboys80 · 12/10/2014 20:57

we have a stairgate at top of stairs so if he had been put to bed correctly and not left to play on stairs it wouldn't have happened. I also have little time to do diy as it is one of the few jobs dh does He works long hours so I do everything in the home during the week. He may cook the odd meal at the weekend and very rarely does abit of ironing. (like maybe4 times in 8 years). He also very occassionally do washing up and putting out rubbish but I do these jobs 95% of the time also.
clearly watching tv upstairs was more important.

This wasn't a case where her dp was asleep believing ds was asleep though

This was a case where he had something better to do
